so word on the street is that smith was intoxicated (he had just left dinner at a sake bar), collided with the guy, and then tried to run (there is video of this). the guy then chased him down, collided with smith, and there was an altercation that resulted in the shooting.

now hit and run is definitely no excuse to kill a man, but it would help explain why things were so heated. also the guy was the one who called the police and he stuck around the scene until they arrived.

Quote:
Smith drove a Mercedes G63 SUV on Saturday night, while Hayes drove a Hummer H2, New Orleans police said.

The surveillance video appears to show the Mercedes bump the Hummer at 11:21 p.m. As the Hummer begins to pull over to the side of the road, the Mercedes veers into the opposite lane before driving away. The Hummer immediately pursues the Mercedes onto Sophie Wright Place; according to New Orleans police, Smith was shot two blocks away near the intersection of Sophie Wright Place and Felicity Street, which is a five-point intersection.

^^^ supposedly there is a 2nd gun as well, which belonged to Smith...the police have possession of it.

Only thing throwing me off is the shooter's connection to the police officer Smith was with...that seems like one hell of a coincidence

Firstly,... R.I.P. Will Smith... very sad story.

However,...

Sucks that this is attracting gun-control advocates.

At this point... What difference does it make? Let them have our guns too.
This country has clearly shown me that's it has lost it's ability to think, So
maybe we deserve to have our guns taken.

yep, apparently it has been confirmed that smith had a loaded gun in his vehicle.

my gut tells me that hayes is going to walk. louisiana has a "stand your ground law" and basically the prosecution will have to prove that smith never threatened to shoot hayes.

the shooters connection to that police officer is definitely strange
