and need I remind you that you're also citing an encyclopedia (lol pre-internet wikipedia) and a website without references.

It's not a Britannica you dumbass. It's a book about the NBA published in it's 3rd addition in 2000.

So you dismiss the legitimacy of the official NBA team site, and yet expect everybody to believe that a fan site is more reliable...

You are a moron.

Ya and I just got done discrediting wikipedia. Encyclopedias are just pre-internet wikipedias only LESS reliable, so what's your point? I'll trust laker fans, ben berger, and logic thank you.

You are a moron.

Encyclopedia still refers to a book written by a bunch of people who claim to know something even though they really pull most of it out of their ass. And it was written in 2000 so you know there is an anti-kobe bias.

My little nephew makes many little lakes by accident every day all over the yard. Why, do you want to swim in one?

OK so this just confirms you're trolling. Nobody take this fool seriously anymore.

That's what a Laker is. There's even a story why the original owner came up with the name, but I don't remember what it is. Can Jeannie Buss be wrong? Sure. But I'd take her word over that of Wikipedia. It's not that big a deal, I'm not sure why people are going crazy about it.

Thanks man and ya, people are going nuts, ignoring me and cussing me out and stuff. And at the end of the day we still have the Pacific which is the largest body of water in the world so LA is more deserving of a team who's name references either water or cargo ships.

Anyone who's directed an insult or expletive at another member of the forum during the course of this thread. Apparently some people believe "Laker" is somehow derived from "Land of 10000 Lakes" and they are very passionate about spreading this fallacy.

It's just another lesson on why people should be sure they know what they're talking about before they off calling other people retarded.

If you guys are really that sure about the origin of the name of a team that you don't even follow, how about an account bet? You e-mail Jeanie Buss: jeanie.courtside@la-lakers.com ask her what the origin of the name is. If you're wrong, delete your account.
