Default The GSW offense is based on hacking the system

Ok bros, it took me about 5 full GSW games to see through their system, apparantly the guys paid to play 82 games can't.

Let me help you out tho.

The offense is 99% predicated on the fact you can't touch anyone on the perimeter at all. Even Coach Kerr talked about how soft this era is.

Because you can't touch a defender at all, Kerr has correctly analyzed that it is intensively difficult to guard someone already moving, because the defender has to move back and/or laterally while the offensive player moves forward, HUGE advantage of the offensive player.

Ok, so the GSW gameplan is predicated on constant quick penetration into the top of the key, very like Spurs system.

The main difference what Spurs and GSW do different from other teams is they always penetrate within 1-2 seconds after receiving the ball. There is never any dribbling without penetrating.

Because modern teams shadow/lag off their man to help on the weakside so much, a quick pass to the other side makes the defender rush towards the man, who is usually also a decent 3 point threat.

Taking advantage of this, the GSW player instantly penetrates, while the defender is caught in his stride, fully unable to guard his man because he can't even handcheck or touch just a little bit! This penetration then creates a huge hole somewhere else, where as that guy gets the open 3 or the drive. Repeat as needed. These quick off pass penetrations create chaos in the defense after the 2nd repeat due to bad rotations.

It is quite brilliant really BUT only possible because of the extreme no-touch rule for perimeter players.

Thank goodness Draymond is there with his battle axe to set "screens" to free him.

ill be the first to admit that draymond and bogut set a lot of moving screens but you also have to admit that steph curry gets hand checked and straight up held off ball a lot of the time as well.

it's give and take, they have been letting them play ball

Golden State is a jump shooting team in a jump shooting league. They are the best at what they do. With the exception of the SA Spurs, there is no Rocky to their Apollo Creed. No Rafa to their Federer.

Kerr took a couple of things from other franchises..

He took a free flowing approach that Phoenix Suns had nash era and mixed it with intense defensive principles of the Spurs. Watching Golden State it's like a mix of Spurs and Suns offense. Defensively, they are crafty and "dirty" like those spurs with Bruce bowen.

He's been able to get everyone to buy into their role. There is no drama for shots or sets.

To defend Golden State, I always say if you can take Draymond out of the game, that's half the battle won. Live with Curry and contest those deep 3's. Force him to go to the basket. wait, I say force him to penetrate because he'snot built mentally or physically like Westbrook to attack the basket constantly. I still believe at times he worries about those ankle troubles and if you can be physical with him, you can knock him off his game just a tad.

Teams need to also recognize that GSW 2nd unit is better defensively than their first unit. First unit scores 30 plus points in a quarter for the 2nd unit to completely suffocate you defensively giving enough time for the starters to make a run again.

Except for Warriorfan's excessive Curry stanning - to the point of slagging the entire team, I don't have anything against GSW, they're a great team.

I just think what sets the Warriors apart is not their shooting, but their ability to completely wreck rotations of their opponents. Pay attention to it the next time, they sometimes make NBA teams look like unorganized rec league teams. They do this imo by consistantly beating their opponents of the dribble and this they do with moving very fast of receiving a pass. It's like a team of 3 point shooting Tony Parkers.
