Darko was the unquestionable #2 pick. Blame Dumars all you want in retrospect but every GM would have made the same pick.

That being said, there are plenty of reasons to boo Darko:

1. He demanded a trade
2. He is a whiny ***** who expected everything to be handed to him
3. He was regulary caught out drinking the night before games when he was a minor
4. He never improved and always looked lost on the court despite whatever chance he was given.

Carter did say that Streetpharmacist, who by pharmacist i can only assume means 14 year old.

It's been in interviews that have been replayed over and over, I forget who the guys name is.

There were GM's who were saying that Darko was better than Labron. The hype was insane. No one's saying that Darko won't be a very good player. He probably will be pretty soon. But whinign about Detroit fans booing him is silly. How soft are you people? They cheered him when he was there because they're loyal fans. If Grant Hill would've been able to come back to the Palace the year after he left he would've been booed out of the building. But he wasn't because he didn't return to Detroit until 2004 or 2005 after the Pistons became very successful. Quit your crying.

And great obligatory "Dumars is overrated posts". You wish your team had him as a GM. Yeah he wanted to keep Hill. But when Hill decided to bolt it was Dumars who saw something in Wallace. It was Dumars who signed Billups to the firrgin mid-level. DRafted Prince late and Okur in the 2nd round. Traded Stackhouse for Rip in an unpopular move. Traded expiring contracts and a couple 1st rounders(Josh Smith and Tony Allen btw) for Sheed. You say he got lucky with that trade? Ho was it that he was able to convince Boston and Atlanta to pull that trade off? Got McDyess when everyone thought he was washed up. Dumars is a great GM.

No .. I know what interview u're talking about .. John Thopmson one on TNT... and I do know well enough that's been relayed again and again.. buty maybe you should go back to the interview and check out the question and Carter's response to it fully. Yes Carter did say that he ddn't try hard enough... but the question was about Carter's own game and skills etc.. and whether he could have become an even better player with the potential (talent, atheleticism, smarts) he had. John Thompson didn't ask him if he had worked hard DURING the game..He asked him whether he had worked hard enough at his game .. and here was Carter's response..

"In years past, no. I was fortunate to have the talent. You get spoiled when you're able to do a lot of things. You see that you don't have to work at it."

I've no phukin clue how some people can honestly misinterpret that statement into something like "I didn't try hard in games, I was disinterested blah blah blah" . Man.. hate a player all you want but don't make up stuff against him.

The 7-foot, 250-pound center from Serbia-Montenegro was jeered and taunted throughout the game, particularly while shooting free throws.

"I don't really care," he insisted. "Back home fans used to throw baseball (bats) at me. They used to try to kill me back home, that's why I don't even care."
