Crazy eyebrows guy...AKA Carlos Delfino. I understand maybe financially we had to lose him but I pictured him as a glue type guy. The man could defend, shoot, slash, handle the ball, grab a board here and there and toss an assist once in a while. He was not spectacular at one thing but did a lot of things well.
You need guys like that if you want to make deep runs into the playoffs, and hard nosed guys like that who can actually play are not easy to come by in the league. Garbo was that guy a couple of seasons ago and we've lost him as well. Also I think Delfino would be pretty handy to have around just in case it takes Ukic a little time to acclimate himself in the NBA.
I'm not saying the Raptors will fall apart or anything. I'm just saying we'll probably find that a guy that brings what Delfino brings will be pretty hard to replace...
Well the biggest asset he brought was rebounding and we addressed that with O'Neal. He would have probably outproduced Adams/Ukic however.
Really? I always thought it was more his versatility rather than one specific thing. I also would feel a lot more comfortable having him guard wing players rather than Adams. No slight against him though but at 6'4 it's gonna be hard to match up against some guys.
I have always liked Delfino!!!! (if you've read my post in other threads)
I get excited everytime he's on the floor, feels like he has something to prove and surprises everyone! with a few dunks, streaking 3 points, and impossible up and under And-1's . And i've always thought that he can start at SG, replacing AP
Don't think the Raptors will be weaker overall (after all the moves), but i will certainly miss his presence.
There was obviously no way we could pay Carlos $10 million per, so it's a moot point. But damn I would rather have him than Adams or Kapono (unless Kapono can play like he did in the playoffs on a fairly regular basis, or if Adams turns into another Moon-type success story).

Is he really getting 10 mil in Europe? If so good for him.

Size of the market in Europe might not be as big as America in terms of people. But size of the market in DOLLARS can probably be matched.. therefore, with lack of talented players, they are willing to pay (and have the ability) much more for a solid NBA players (eg. childress, pargo, delfino)
Basic supply and demand.. they are short in supply, but have the demand and the Moolah$$$
I wanted Delfino back when I found out he was only 25. I was shocked to hear that he was that young, it seems like he's been in the league forever...
25? Wow, yeah it does seem like he's been in the league forever, but I guess it hasn't really been that long. Oh well, there's no way we would've been able to afford that kind of price tag.
I was one of them that didn't want Carlos back this season, but now seeing that Hassan Adams is our back-up SG I think I could have lived with Delfino.
I think the Raps are gonna be fine without him but he will be missed though with his slashing and defensive ability. It worries me that AP is 33 and could be on the decline this year though.
