This isn't a good enough reason...

Joe Johnson put up 20 points in the fourth quarter of a pivotal game 4 against the Celtics don't undermine him by saying he isn't a competitor.

How would the Hawks do with him? 42 wins? 45?
Does that make up for the longer period of good play Johnson's gonna give them?

Joe Johnson have a higher ceiling than Manu Ginobili, and he's a more versatile player than Manu that's why he can play the PG, SG and SF position in the NBA, and he's healthy at the start of the 2008-09 NBA Season.

It's not that hard to get assists when you're pretty much the only player on your team who can handle the rock (besides Bibby, who was just traded to Atlanta in the middle of last season) and you play 40+ minutes a game. Don't get me wrong, I thought JJ was brilliant in Phoenix and is a highly underrated player, but the Spurs aren't going to trade break up their quintessential trio.

Tmac had a higher ceiling too....... aside from the foot injury I'd trade for Manu in a heart beat

Joe Johnson is good but not a superstar....Manu has same stats, is the number 3 option on his team and plays 10 less minutes a game. I would've taken Nash at 30 for Arenas at age 25....with free agency and the fluctuation of teams its about what can you do for me now.... Don't think players in the league would take JJ over Manu

It's funny because this trade is quite even, but both teams are better of with the player they already have.

Manu is the better player, but Joe is younger. The Spurs want to have one more go at it, they need the player who is the best right now. And Manu on the Hawks would make no sense, because once the rest of the Hawks become good Manu will be old.

Who's to say that Manu could even play starter minutes? Playing thirty or less per game, he's never played a full season, and never started more than seventy-four games. His style of play begs for injury, and I think if you made him play even thirty-five(still five less than JJ gets per game) per game, he'd be unlikely to play over sixty games.

I'm not really sure what the debate here is, other than that Ginobili is a proven winner. But vs. the Celtics JJ proved that he's a competitor, so I don't even think that's a valid argument.
