..today. It was nuts. Kumori-con in Portland, Oregon. I've gone the last 2 years, too. In 2004 it was so small it was a joke! 2005 a bit bigger.. but 2006 damn.. waited in line 3 hours just to get in.. and then 2-3 hours later people were still waiting to get in!
I ended up spending about $150($40 for 2 single day tickets) total and took an assload of pictures of cosplayers.
If anyone wants me to post some pics (I know there's a few anime fans on here), I'll post some of the better ones I took.
And yes, I'm fully aware I'll most likely get flamed to hell and back for liking anime and/or going to an anime convention. But you know what? I don't really care too much. I had a good time and enjoyed myself.
I guess I'm fairly "hardcore". And actually I did see an Ash cosplayer there. Female, actually.
Animes I like .... umm .. Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Tenchi Muyo, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Saber Marionette, Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Azumanga Daioh, Pita-Ten, Chobits, El Hazard, Martian Successor Nadesico, Ah! My Goddess, Di Gi Charat (Dejiko is the character in my avatar. And despite the fact that it looks very childish, it's more geared towards young adults.) And I'm sure I'm missing series, but that's a pretty good summary of types of animes I've enjoyed.
Really for the most part, I'll watch any style or type of anime.
Here's a few pics I uploaded to ImageShack. I'm too lazy to upload them to my host right now but anyways here they are:
I was hungry.. wanted to get a bite to eat.. stopped by Janzten Beach Mall and first thing I see is a bunch of cosplayers on the Merry-Go-Round. Naturally I had to take some pictures. Absolute hilarity. Madness. Etc. Some of the people in the food court seemed to get a kick out of it. Especially the ones that recognized some of the more mainstream characters like Naruto and such.
I like anime a lot as well but I'd never think of going to a convention. I'm a closet geek
You know you'd think it'd be a bunch of goofy kids walking around shuffling their feet too scared to make eye contact. But it's exact opposite. It's a bunch of crazy people talking and having an awesome time. I always meet some of the coolest and most ridiculous people ever. One dude I talked to while waiting in line was dressed up as a character from Naruto. He was getting into it to with poses and ****. But he opens up his backpack and he's got all these homemade ninja weapons and ****. Then he goes on some crazy story about how he was amazed how great they work, how even their weight is, balance etc. Then he's like "yeah the last 9 times I was at con someone always ends up fighting me.. It's weird! I'm not even in costume at the time either!"
There was some girl behind me that everyone that saw her was like, "Oh wow you're wearing clothes this time!" and I'm thinking "wtf.. what's she normally look like?!"
And really you shouldn't be afraid (or whatever) to goto a con. There's some cool merchandise and stuff there too. They'll have guest speakers and stuff too. People from the industry. Maybe you'll get lucky and get to see whatever anime it is they worked on before it hits the streets. And no one is gonna be like, "wtf.. he don't look like an anime fan!" .. worst anyone might think is, "Psh! He probably watches dubs!"
Anyways, here's some of the pictures I took:
(This is the dude I was talking about. Pure madness, in a good way.)
