Should raps go after Matt Harpring?

its not about his jump shot, raptors need some veterns who know how to play, also he is a great defender and rebounder which we are both weak at. My point being if villy gets traded and depending on what we draft harpring could be jsut what we need. however a 4 year deal would be the max i would offer.

I counter that with, we shouldn't be signing veterans to 4 year contracts when veterans of his skill level simply aren't necessary. Our team will be built off the current core - Peterson, Bosh, Villaneuva. It doesn't make much sense to go spend a large amount of our cap on someone who won't make much of a difference at this point in time, Harpring is a savvy veteran, and he will demand a good amount of money because he will have contending teams after him.

We aren't ready to take the step into contender status, and I think that is where we would be willing to make a signing like Harpring. If we were the 6th seed in the East, then signing someone like Harpring would make logical sense.

fair enough, then what would you say matt would get as his next contract?

Either 4 or 5 years at ~4.0 mil per. Seems high I know.

I think Harpring is the type of guy you bring in at the trade deadline (for expire/young guy who hasn't panned out) to help your playoff run, not somebody you should sign out of free agency during a rebuilding period. As far as teams that should sign him, Denver could use an outside shooter, but I think he'll probably resign with the Jazz.
