Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Update
What's known so far about the upcoming Nintendo DS exclusive from Rockstar Games.
by Craig Harris

September 24, 2008 - At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Nintendo allotted precious press conference time to make a surprise announcement: Rockstar has been busy working on an original Grand Theft Auto for the Nintendo DS. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars wouldn't revolve around any existing GTA titles. Instead, it would focus on an original story that features the same Mature-rated gameplay of past titles in the series.

After that announcement, Rockstar itself let slip a few tidbits about its game on the official Grand Theft Auto website. The development studio: Rockstar Leeds -- the same group that has worked on the two PlayStation Portable games and their subsequent PlayStation 2 ports -- is the team hard at work converting the violent car jacking gameplay to the touch screen handheld. There will be online support for multiplayer connections. It's coming out this Winter.

Since then, Rockstar had been playing quiet with its title, waiting for the right moment to reveal the specifics of what the Nintendo DS original will contain. Apparently, that time is right now...

Apparently the view will be top done, and the cut scene pictures will be in a comic book style, with black outlining.

They should have gone fully top down, 2d. That would have looked way better.

Reminds me of GTA 1 and 2. I've always hated top down games. They're great for being able to see whatever you're going at, but the graphics tend to be horrible from that perspective.

The MGS series has a slight top down view, it's angled, but you can also switch to first person at the slight tap of a button.
