saw funny people this weekend and loved it, it's first movie i liked with adam sandler in it in a long time. i thought they could've handled the ending better but overall i gotta say it was a pretty entertaining film.

also, the eminem and ray romano cameo was hilarious.

8/10

"The Conversation."

Watched it at pete's behest. Honestly, I feel like I should think this film is incredible, and I recognize strengths in the filmmaking that do make it great, but it was just too plodding and some holes existed. I don't mind character-driven suspense at all, but this one was just a little too dry for my likings. First off, since the fact that 3 people were killed because of his previous surveillance causes a MAJOR change in him, you need to flesh that out. You can't just say "oh, three guys are dead because of him" halfway through the movie, never explain it, and expect us to feel that he's genuinely haunted by it. It doesn't work like that. Huge hole there IMO.

Positives? Acting was phenomenal all-round. Hackman playing the kind of out-of-type role (this was only 3 years after "The French Connection) that Stallone did in "Cop Land," and he was out-fcking-standing. John Cazale was good as always, and a ridiculously young Harrison Ford was great, too.

I don't know. I'd give this film two different ratings. One for how much I personally enjoyed it and one for the actual quality of it. The first would be in the low 80s, the latter in the low 90s.

It didn't really bother me that much, and even if it did, Hackman played the role so well that It's impossible for it to be below a 90 for me.

It was a worthwhile insight into Che's endeavors. Ultimately Che was glorified a little too much probably, but it was enjoyable. Not sure why it did so terribly at the box office. The hope and optimism of the first part is sharply contrasted with the despair and hopelessness of the secnod.

Spoiler: Che dies.

It probably would have done alright had it gotten any sort of distribution. It seems like it's getting harder and harder to get distribution for anything outside a top 10 money maker, which means these flicks make even less than they would, which means next time they get an even smaller release. It's a vicious cycle. And I guess if it's making money, then there's not much I can do to argue, but I'd love to know how much less money Transformers would make if it was only playing on two screens in every theatre instead of four. It seems like there's some overkill on these big releases.

I'd give it a 7.5/10

Rudd is awkwardly funny and a Segel has some great moments/one liners; overall worth seeing, but nothing serious or thought-provoking
