Thirst - 8/10
- Another very good movie from Park Chan-Wook, one of the best directors on the planet. Every year I wait for his next movie and other than the underwhelming Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, he has no disappointed. This was a strange horror film with clear elements of dark comedy in the second half. Once again, he is not afraid to tangle taboo topics. A priest becoming a vampire and then indulging himself in things he would consider sinful acts. When it comes to vampire movies, I think it's time to stick to foreign films with this and the even better Let the Right One In from the year before.

2012 - 5/10
Better than I expected. I thought this was going to be like Transformers 2. Loud, dumb, long, boring and a total waste of time. Well, it was loud, dumb and long but I was never bored. Sure the dialogue, characters, set pieces (which looked amazing) and everything else was cliched and had me cringing many times but for a movie this retarded to not bore me through 2.5+ hours, that's a feat. Some of the university geography courses that I took nearly led me to turn this off after a plane manages to outrace a pyroclastic flow from a supervolcano (it tops the truck outracing one in Dante's Peak) but I'm glad I stuck around. I'm a sucker for end of the world stories though. It really pissed me off how they killed off the stepfather though. After all that he did for the family to get there to just get sucked into the gears was not right. I guess that's what happens when your character is not the one played by John Cusack.

Good Dick...... 7.5/10

This is a weird and kind bizarre movie, yet entertaining. Don't bother looking at the trailer because it is completely different.

Syriana... again. Maybe the 5th time I have watched it. Great.

10/10 for a person with a decent attention span, 7/10 if not? I dunno :P

Law Abiding Citizen. OMG one of the best flms i've ever seen. there only seems bad reviews about which i dont understand. Got everything i want in a film:violence, good acting, decent intellectual plot and cynically funny

I dont give two shits about the reviews or opinions on Law Abiding Citizen. It was pure badassery and I loved every second of it.

The question I imediately asked after seeing it was who would win that guy or Jason Bourne?

Rating:I fucks with this. 81%

This was a really good movie. It did the culture clash friendship plot without becoming a schmaltzy Disneyish mess. The characters are generally likable, and it somehow makes a movie about arranged marriages an exercise in female empowerment.

Rumblefish-8/10

Francis Copola's follow-up to The Outsiders again features Matt Dillon as a loser teen. Not a fan of Dillon's acting but there are some solid performances from Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, Harry Dean Stanton and a young Nic Cage. Copola tries too hard to make an art movie here although the b&w cinematography looks good especially in the night scenes. Very cool score by Stewart Copeland.

The Hurt Locker

Throughout the first 2/3 of the movie, I was in awe of the level of suspense they were able to hold throughout the majority of scenes, but I was concerned that the plot wasn't developing towards something conclusive. The ending disappointed, as I felt the writers/filmmakers just weren't sure how to build towards a satisfying ending.

8/10

I kinda felt the same way. Some absolutely amazing scenes and yet the ending was...meh. Probably very realistic but I was hoping for a little more.

IMO the best ending for any of the pics nominated for best picture was District 9.

I actually didn't see it from the very beginning, so I'm a little leary of full blown reviewing it. But I've pieced together Lymelife from a few viewings on cable, and it seems right up my ally. It's probably telling that I'm such a fan of family disfunction. It seems like a ten year shift and slightly more blue collar version of The Ice Storm, a personal favorite, and something that I think got hidden a bit by the hype surrounding American Beauty.
