Yeah it just stared on Monday I think. I just hope it doesn't delve TOO much into the ethical questions of euthanasia. I really don't know how you'd make a movie like it without examining it, but I just hope it doesn't have the usual HBO fairly far left preach to me approach they take with these types of things.

The Road

It isn't the most inviting, comforting story in the world, but I was very happy to see that it stayed true to the tone and overall darkness of the Cormac McCarthy novel (as most of his work is).

Excellent acting by both Viggo Mortenson and especially the young boy (Kodi McPhee). Robert Duvall is also terrific in a cameo role.

It is a pretty haunting film and I would highly recommend it.

8/10

I've been meaning to see the Road for a while now. I loved the book and wanted to see how the movie compares.

As I said, it stays pretty true and they somehow made the film as dark as the book, which is saying something. You should see it ASAP.

Yeah it's a very dark, depressing movie, but definitely worth watching at least once.

Which movie should I watch next ISH? Keep in mind I've never seen any of these:

The Usual Suspects

Evil Dead (number 1)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (I've read the book so I basically know the story)

A Fistful of Dollars

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (I'm thinking I should wait on this until I watch A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few More Dollars)

Yea, I think I'm going to have a Clint Eastwood/Western day. I watched The Pale Rider about a week ago and though it was an excellent movie, which has got me interested in watching Westerns.

definitely not much much better. i actually dig 'for a few dollars more' over 'good, bad, ugly', although the gap between them isn't so much to be worth arguing over. honestly if you're planning to check out the full trilogy, i'd just go chronological. the first would definitely seem a little underwhelming if you saw it after either of the other two - but if you see 'fistful' before the others, you'll still love it and then be able to move onto bigger and better things.

although even though i've only seen it twice now (for the first time within the last few months), i'd almost definitely nominate 'once upon a time in the west' as the best leone spaghetti. still haven't seen 'ouatia'.

but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Hot tub time machine = 9/10...****ing hilarious, took a little while to get funny though

the losers = 7/10 i went in expecting a lot of laughs but it was more of an action movie, i think seeing hot tub time machine the night before made it seem less funny

i just saw 10 minutes of 'braveheart'. the little sh*t prince was pretty horribly overacted/overcasted. but thats okay. i laughed when his friend got thrown out the window.

Crazy Heart

The story was unpredictable and incredible. Jeff Bridges did an outstanding job as he always does and really sold it for me. The music was great too. I give it a 95/100. One of my favs in recent history. I actually liked it more than Inglorious Bastards which is saying something.

I'd rank FaFDM over tGtBtU, but I'd rank High Plains Drifter high than both.

"with a hint of supernatural" according to the wiki - i'll have to check it out. the title is pretty f*cking cool at the very least.

i did rewatch 'eternal sunshine' a few nights ago for the umpteenth time. i really do think that love triangle romance sideplot could have gone awry in a hurry, but they did a fantastic job not forcing too much of it into the screen time. it really was just enough to make the poignant observation about how much damage meddling with memories can do.

this is also kate winslet's best movie - that i've seen. although no, i still "have not seen the reader". which apparently is just a softcore porno for the first third? so i hear anyway.
