i've been living out of a tent and planting trees on commission in norther ontario for the last two months. needless to say the return to civilization has been a bit of a culture shock, and i'm still a little restless. i'll see if i can get back into a good ish posting groove over the next week or so. lol
I literally just finished watching Dial H for Hitchcock. Too many documentaries for me of late. But Hitch is fascinating to me. Great stuff. The guy's work is incredible. So much more delicate than it gets credit for. And the smaller lesser known stuff creates a damn fine catalog on it's own.
Now I want to sit down and watch all his stuff again. Starting with Rear Window, maybe my favorite movie ever.
And while you're here, I was just listening to Echoes and noticed for the first time that you can hear the faint sounds of children screaming in the background at some points.
i'm so far behind on hitchcock. the few of his i have seen i haven't really gotten hooked, but i get the sense that's just because i've watched the wrong ones.
the birds
rope
psycho
none of which wowed me. but i really want to see stuff like vertigo, north by northwest, rear window, etc. maybe i'll plan a hitchcock day of smoking and drinking over the next week. yes, i think i'll do that.
it was my favourite of the three, and there were parts i liked, but going into it already knowing the general story just left me feeling like i was watching one giant cliche. i wouldn't at all call it a bad movie and i remember loving that iconic score more than i expected i would (having heard it before hand), but it didn't live up to the hype.
maybe i should peep the van sant / vince vaughn remake. lol
oh, and i don't remember any screaming in 'echoes'. is it throughout the whole song? something rings a bell shortly before the bizarro four minute avant garde bullsh*t, but i might just be making that up.

Hitchcock is my favorite director. Psycho definitely isn't a wrong one. I like it the most out of all of his movies. My only problem is that they overexplained the movie at the end, which wasn't really needed. If you don't end up liking Rear Window, Vertigo, Frenzy, North by Northwest, The Man Who Knew Too Much, etc... then I don't know what to tell you. Maybe try one of his earlier movies like The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes or Blackmail.
