Yep... I said 'Eyes Wide Shut.' It seems like the trendy thing to do is to trash that movie, for some reason. Maybe it is because Cruise's legacy has been so tarnished and the whole movie is based around his RL marriage, which obviously fell apart.

But, I watched it for the first time in years recently and it re-affirmed my original conclusion... Excellent film. Lots of very interesting, very deep themes going on, the cinematography is absolutely top-notch, the acting is great, and the tension builds quite nicely throughout.

I have no problem putting it next to some of Kubrick's other certifiable classics.
Okay I'll start getting the movies you listed. I've read A Clockwork Orange and just recently saw The Shining on t.v. so those will be lower on my list.

For you Coen Bros list I already have Lebowski.

Nice... Also, give Motorcycle Diaries a watch... One of my favorite movies from the past decade.

The Stoning of Soraya M.

WOW! This was one awesome film. You can pretty much surmise what it's about from the poster. But man, was it excellent. It excelled on all technical fronts, and rarely have I seen a movie so gut-wrenchingly moving and powerful. Must see.

9/10

Keep in mind it's pretty slow moving, will also probably depress you and make you feel sick to your stomach at times(which some reviews have knocked it for --shallow much?), which was certainly the case with me.

If it is honest to its subject and also has a certain measure of despondency.. Im sure I will like it..

I revel in all that is despondent.

Katyń

Pretty good WW2 movie, based on the 1940 Katyn forest massacre. There is almost no action to be had here, as this is more focused on the captured Polish troops who continued to delude themselves that "In a year's time we'll all look back on this and laugh" instead of fighting back, and the effect of being sandwiched between the Nazis and the Soviets on the Polish psyche. Also a lot of wartime propaganda is explored here. It was sad to see so many Poles just pretend that the Soviets did nothing wrong, just trying to go along, to get along.

It was a deftly crafted film, and my only complaints are that sometimes when there were conversations taking place in more than one language it was a pain to read all the subs in time and make sense of who was saying what, and that there was really no clear timeline of when specific scenes were taking place.

7.5/10

Screw Eyes Wide Shut, go with Paths of Glory. It's one of Kubrick's best (his 2nd best IMO), but for some unknown reason it doesn't get brought up a lot.

I saw it for a second time last night and it was even better the second time. It really is a masterpiece. The theory I held about it was reaffirmed. Also, Nolan has been solidified as my favorite director. Yeah.. I loved it..

Just saw The Book of Eli in blu ray and all I can say is WOW BLU RAY IS SICK...AMAZING. KNEW THE FIRST MOVIE DIDNT LOOK GOOD CUZ ITS OLD...Now for the movie, I thought it was good lol. Didnt see the twist coming but I thought it was ok, I can see where they're goin w/this movie. (Or I think...) Overall to me actually it was a passing movie but nothing above passing, like it wasn't really good. Its worth watching once for sure, and I'm sayin this even though Denzel's in it. Also Mila did a great job as Solara too. So overall I'll give it

The Book of Eli - 7/10
