I've seen the original, but only vaguely recall it. This is not for the faint of heart. It's about a girl who's repeatedly raped during what was supposed to be a peaceful seclusion in the country, and who eventually metes out her revenge. And the revenge is brutal, and pretty damn creative to be perfectly honest. It's like she was inspired by the Saw movies or something.
There are some questionable plot points, and other aspects of the movie are only serviceable, but the bread and butter of this one is in the unflinchingly brutal and devious revenge sequences, and it does those really, really well.
i just saw it, its pretty intense, i give it a 7/10
Beautiful film that successfully plucks every heart-string without being exploitative or sensationalistic. This is arguably the best rebuke of the total war concept I have seen yet.
I just took up this recommendation. Agreed, that was a powerful display of the consequences of war. I'd give it an 8/10. The ending was a little predictable with a lot of foreshadowing that gave away the climax (and sort of bored me a bit along the way), but it didn't take away too much from the overall story. Really touching stuff with a meaningful message.
Loved the atmosphere of the movie, was kind of reminiscent of vintage Polanski thrillers for me. Same sort of unsettling/eerie feeling you'd get throughout something like Rosemary's Baby for example. The relationship between the mother and daughter was so strange but fascinating (the mom's eyes spooked me a little), might have been my favorite part of the movie. Was engaged in from start to finish, some people have pointed to the first half of it dragging but I thought the drama never really let up. You could call the plot somewhat predictable but it doesn't matter because it had no affect on the intensity of the drama for me. And yes like everyone mentioned, the score was amazing, cast was perfect and the lighting in some sequences was absolutely spectacular. Best movie of 2010 for me, just above Toy Story.
Anyone seen Unstoppable? Because it looks incredibly weak to me and I don't even think it's worth a dl..
I have. It's not bad at all. But you pretty much know the ending once the drama starts. You know these movies always have a good ending. It's nothing classic, but it's not bad either. I'd rate it: Decent/Average at best
