This is how you turn a ridiculous and convoluted plot into a thrilling and very good movie. There was a point here when I just turned my logical reasoning off and went along for the ride. A big plus here is the performance from Russell Crowe. You feel his desperation and anxiety in every scene. Great chemistry between him and Elizabeth Banks too. I really wish Haggis didn't submit to tying one crucial loose end towards the end. Would've worked better for me with a bit of ambiguity. This was pure thrilling mindless but heartfelt entertainment for me.
Unstoppable - 7/10
More mindless action done well. I haven't really liked any recent Tony Scott movies so this was a surprise. Two genuinely likable leads portrayed by Washington and Pine. The rest of the cast was standard one-dimensional action movie filler though. I liked the fact that it was about trains though which isn't a hot thing in action films these days.
This Movie is Broken - 6/10
Really only because I love the music. If I wasn't a huge BSS fan, this would be maybe a 4/10. Toronto is an awesome city and films really well, could have used that more to it's advantage. The characters are ok but not enough time is spent with them to create any sort of connections. It's all about the music.
I thought it was perfect pacing. It calmed down enough for me to catch a breath. 9/10 at worst but no way it is 5/10
Like I said, 5/10 is an average film. On my scale, a 9/10 is very near to perfection.... rarely achieved, thus saved for truly great films.
The last 9/10 I saw... or at least close to it.... would have to be Black Swan. I can't say anything negative about that film other than the fact that the general public perception is that it is a dance movie.
I assumed that a movie called 127 hours would be primarily based on the 127 hours after his arm was pinned. Did you not know anything about the true story around which the film was based???
to be honest i didnt . But i see no point in making a movie such as this if nothing happens. And i mean nothing at all. He literally tries to get his arm out for 90% of the movie and at the end cuts it off and escapes.
