I had very high expectations and it exceeded them, which is saying something. What an incredible statement on modern art and the absurdity of consumerism this film is. I had so many questions when the credits rolled, I -- of course -- turned to the Internet.... And found out that this movie has spawned a fair number of conspiracy theories.

****POTENTIAL SPOILERS IN WHITE****

Continuing with spoilers:

I'm sure the whole thing is made up. The whole character is just too ridiculous. One thing that jumps out to me is this: remember how Guetta's original job was buying bags of used sportswear at $100 a bag and turning that into tens of thousands of dollars selling it as fashion? Yeah I'm sure that isn't some kind of metaphor.

It's very elaborate though. Crazy stuff.

I now worship Banksy as a god after watching that film.

And I agree with LJJ.

A few creepy moments, the two lead "Angels" are played by awesome actors who give it their all, and the premise is cool.

Everything else sucks. 4/10.

BUT does anyone here have any recommendations for survival-horror-sci fi movies? I love movies about groups of people trying to survive crazy situations.

Yeah... The sportswear thing was as metaphorical as it was ridiculous. And, there was never any real discussion about how Guetta financed his initial gallery in LA, outside of saying that he nearly sold off everything he owned... Which likely still wouldn't flip the bill for a project that probably cost close to a million dollars.

I went back and read some reviews of the first MBW show in LA and there are several art critics that smelled a rat (Banksy's signature, btw) back before anyone knew anything about a documentary being filmed. MBW was being colored as a possible fake front-man for a larger operation way back in 2008 when he hit the scene.

Now, in light of the documentary and Banksy's penchant for pranks, it makes a lot of sense. Even the name... Mr. Brainwash... It is pretty obvious to me that this is maybe the most epic prank ever...

And people are STILL shelling out thousands and thousands of dollars for MBW 'art.' I guess, if it is a Banksy prank, even MBW's fake art has some merit in historical context... But, still... He has certainly made his point about consumerism and the art world. Fantastically devised plot.

I don't know, man. The character seems so over-the-top and, while from a distance it seems to make sense, when you really think about it, there are a lot of coincidences and unexplained points. Like, Guetta just happened upon his cousin, who happened to be Space Invader... Who happened to want a camera around and introduced him to all of his stret friends.

And then Banksy, who is notoriously anonymous as part of his whole persona, invites this random Frenchman to follow him around with a camera, risking the chance that Guetta could reveal some footage of his face and kill the whole thing that he has spent decades crafting?

And, somehow Guetta, who seems virtually unemployed, has money to fly around the globe and film these guys? There was talk about a vintage store, but how could he attend to that when his life basically became these street artists?

There just isn't enough detail about Guetta's life for me to believe that he is a real person. I'm going to re-watch it, though, and maybe I will change my mind upon second viewing.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything RBA said about Exit...It all just seems way to perfect for how it all came to fruition, IMO, and the small details like money come into play that you just cannot ignore.

And...great discussion guys, best thread on ISH...rekanize!

I haven't seen it in years and I'm not sure how the CGI/effects hold up after all these years, but it freaked me the f#ck out the first time I saw it. Yeah, I would get on that if I were you.

....and, as I said, if it is the way I described, Banksy is even more of a genius than I originally thought. He deserves all of the accolades that he gets... Shepard Fairey, too.

Ah right, Shepard.

It's out on BD, I'll get it soon and experience a proper re-watch.

I only saw it once, but that was sort of my impression as well. It's a great movie, and I coulda stood for it getting a best pic nod.

I just watched Book of Eli. I have sort of a thing for the post apocalyptic motif. And while the star driven semi-action driven, parable style story telling really isn't my thing, I found it really very enjoyable. Decent twist. Not as preachy as I was expecting. Excellent styleized action sequences that were well shot and handled. I liked the harsh lighting of most of the thing.
Really about as good as a movie of it's ilk can get these days it seems. I'm surprised it didn't review better. I'd give it a low to mid 80s.

Great movie, but possibly the most depressing two hours of my life.

(non-sports related, of course... I am a Clevelander, after all)
