Kung Fu Dunk: 6/10- This was an interesting movie. I got hooked because it was Jay Chou and seemed to be in the vain of Stephen Chow movies.
And guess what!? It had the same charm. Same stylized filming. Same over the top comedy. Plus it was basketball (albiet absolutely ridiculous basketball.)
I loved it. But it had flaws. First off it was subbed which is fine, but this is one of those movies that's sort of a background time film. It's hard to be on the comp and watching since you gotta read quick! (Those subs fly at times). Secondly obviously it wasn't a fantastic plot. However the two main characters you'll really learn to like so there's a surprisingly great catharsis between the two.
You will get genuine laughs (unless you're a bit snobbish with your comedy which... I have a few friends like that. Then I'm not sure if you'll like it you'll just have to see). And the action sequences are so laughably over the top that this whole experience is pretty good. I may have just been surprised cause I was expecting the worst movie, but I really did enjoy this little flick.
Extremely predictable, childish humor. The exotic cars in the movie, such as the Lambo Murcielago & Ferrari 430 Scuderia Spider 16M, were all sick, but I wouldn't watch this film a second time. Hell no.
Also, the movie-going experience was ruined for my girl & I by some idiot pre-teens in the front row & some fat ass couple who brought 3 little girls with them. I know that has nothing to do with the movie, but the movie ended up being lame to me mostly because of those idiots in the theater with us.
