Clash of the Titans was a big dumb guilty pleasure movie. It didn't try hard to be anything special, the 3D conversion was average at best, the characters were poorly drawn, and some non human creatures were just a bit too cartoon like. But, it was decent mindless fun if you accept the fact that it was just a big budget version of Hercules or Xena.
That said, Wrath is worse than Clash in nearly every way. Its actually surprising at how little thought was put into the script. Its not like they had much to live up to but its as if they crapped out a rough draft over a rainy weekend and called it a day. The story is only moderately interesting and is loaded with holes. Kronos wants to take over. Some gods take his side, some side with Zeus. It doesn't really matter though. It's just an excuse for some fights.
New side characters may as well be the nameless redshirts from Star Trek. What little bit you do get is taken from the action movie 101 handbook. In fact, the amount of information I just gave you exceeds what several of them get from the film.
They couldn't (or didn't want) some actors to reprise their roles from the first film and handle it fairly poorly. First we have Io, the woman who couldn't die as punishment for being raped, who died anyway when helping Perseus, was resurrected by Zeus for his son, and who dies off screen as the film opens. Andromeda is now a blonde girl who reminds me of the warrior princess in Lord of the Rings. I have no idea why they even brought her back though b/c she does pretty much nothing the whole way. She attacks a bad guy for a couple seconds but that's about it.
The special effects were solid. The titans were good for the most part but didn't get much to do. Same with Kronos. There is no reason to see this in 3D. None. Most of the 3D effects involve a rock or something heavy falling towards the screen. They pretty much do nothing with it. To quote my friend who I talked into seeing the movie with me, "I thought this movie was supposed to be in 3D."
Anyway, wait until this is on a movie channel or even basic cable to watch this. It would not have taken much to equal or better Clash of the Titans. They failed. Wrath is lazy, pointless, and just plain bad.
the dialogues were quite good as was the story but those singing parts ruined it for me, i know it's supposed to be a musical but they went on for too long its 1minute dialogue 3minutes song and the covers don't do the beatles any justice
I've had a massive movie weekend because I'm house sitting for my aunt and uncle who have the greatest collection of BluRays. I've watched:
North by Northwest (9/10)
Inception (9/10) - I'm less impressed with this movie every time I watch it but it is still a good movie.
The Descendants (8/10)
Bourne Identity (8/10)
Friends with Benefits (6/10)
The Fountain (10/10)
The Dark Knight (8/10)
I'll prob watch Melancholia and either Black Swan or Blade Runner tonight.
I really enjoyed this movie. As a huge Jonah Hill fan it is not his best work, but the message the movie gets across is admirable if you ask me.
****.. I don't get why it gets so many criticism.. it was a freaking good movie.
After he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caretaker.
One of the most charming, heart-warming movies I've ever seen. I dare anyone to watch this movie and not smile or LOL at least once. Chances are you'll have a silly grin on your face most of the way through. The two leads have fantastic chemistry and the dynamics between their characters made it very tough to not be entertained.
Aside from that, this one hits all the right notes. Acting, cinematography, score, etc. are all fantastic. Oh, and also, I just want to say, don't think just because this is French that you won't be able to relate to the humor. The humor here is very universal. Awesome, awesome flick.
