Man, this was a disappointing movie. It may have been an important period in Hunter Thompson's life, but there's nothing here. They even set you up up for "let's take the fight to pricks ending" like in Animal House, but then just pull it away from you.

Aaron Eckhart does make a very good rich prick though.

I was a bit disappointed all things concerned. I'm a huge fan of the Wes Anderson stuff. Even the stuff that some people don't like, like Life Aquatic. And now this thing is being hailed as his best work, and frankly it just didn't click with me.

I think the sticking point for me is that his movies generally center around some quirky character who while bold, usually is somewhat sympathetic, and for whatever reason, I just didn't really like Sam. He struck me as too much of a know it all, which is similar to Jason Schwartzman's character Max in Rushmore. But his was further over the top to the point I found it funny. And there's so little backstory with Sam, we know he's a foster kid, but beyond that very little, that it's hard to attach to him. Suzy, his counterpart, because of her fleshed out family life, with Bill Murray doing Wes Anderson Bill Murray things, and the almost always good Frances McDormand, is a much better character. She has the off putting somewhat bitchy but needs to be rescued persona that characterize so many of Anderson's female characters. I really dug her a lot actually.

It's filled with all sort of Wes Anderson things. Murray, McDormand, Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, were all very good. I could've stood to have Willis' character played with a bit more bite, but that's just a personal choice for me. But for whatever reason it just didn't click for me.

Yeah, I liked parts of this, but it really didn't come together. I think people are saying it's the most Wes Anderson movie he made, but not the best movie he made. It's got the obsessive scene detail and the quirky thematic obsessions he has, but it never really delivers a punch. Feels low budget in a big way and the main kid was not a good enough actor to hang a movie on and it just sinks the movie. Wes Anderson's dialogue doesn't belong in a kid's mouth to begin with, so when it's not delivered with confidence, it's just not good. That scene where they dance on the beach felt like cinematic child abuse. I think he fell in love with the look of the actor and gambled that he would be able to carry it off.

I am excited by this, though

Yeah, the beach scene was really uncomfortable.

There were certainly parts of it liked. And it was filled with WA feel. The long scrolling shots. The overhead inventory shots.
But the kid was a huge problem, and I felt the same way about the dialogue, and was worried about it going in, but frankly his dialogue doesn't sound natural coming out of most people. I'm always concious it's him.

Memento

One of the most creative stories i've ever heard of. I can't find a flaw worth pointing out with this film. I had never seen it before a few days ago and glad i finally have. Definitely a must-watch movie any movie-lover.

Brave - 7/10. Could have been a little better storyline, but overall another enjoyable pixar flick.

If you couldn't find a flaw, why isn't it a 10/10

Simply because it executed its own story well doesn't mean it left me with the impression of being one of the greatest films i ever saw. It's a creative film that doesn't try too hard to go beyond it's own story.

That is a fair assessment. I was surprised how entertained I was.

Anyone here saw Coriolanus? I found it unbearable to watch and stopped 15 minutes in. I never read any Shakespeare though so i dont have enough experience reading old English dialogues. This movie would only appeal to certain demographic or maybe i just didnt give enough time or concentration to try to understand the dialogues. Maybe i'll try watching it again but for the meantime, i say only shakepeare enthusiasts would probably find this movie interesting.

The Italian Job - 6/10
Scale where 5 is completely average.

Nice little heist movie. Very cool cast. Charlize Theron is fine as always. Ending could have been a little bit less cheesy and corny, but eh. Still cool.

I'm gonna rank what I saw in descending order of greatness from what I saw during this movie going experience.

Brave: 7/10- A solid Pixar film. Now a solid film from them is well above average, and this is no different. While the plot was soiled a little bit by the magic element in my opinion, it was still able to create a good sense of character. Because of this you feel a good bit for the characters involved.

I wish they'd have explored the mythos of the region a little more. They mention it and it plays a bit of a role but it would have been cool if they delved deeper into it.

Visually, this movie stands above even some of Pixar's other films. Although the crispness led to some very blurry motion shots.

All in all very enjoyable. A solid recommendation.

Wreck It Ralph Trailer: 10/10- Barring some writing disaster or something there is no way this movie isn't at the least very good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfjEwDQI4JA

La Luna: 12/10- I'd have to see the other ones again but this is easily one of the top-3 Pixar shorts ever made. Maybe the best. It blew me away, and it was what my gf and I talked about most after everything was done.
