Great performances by the entire cast, especially the kid who played Ellis. The kid who plays Neck one has an eerie resemblance to River Phoenix in stand by me. The film moves at an easy pace to match the down south vibe without ever forcing anything. The plot is well crafted and is a modern take on Huck Finn. Great direction and cinematography, everything draws you completely into the story.
Iron man 3- 4.5/10
Had the unfortunate experience of catching this junk right.after seeing a great film like mud. What a jumbled, hokie, campy mess. It was like a combination of the adam west Batman (complete w a boy wonder sidekick), Miami vice, and knight rider. I spent 75 percent of the movie trying to figure out why they chose to go with the prime Joey Fatone doichebag goatee for stark. If that's a taste of what marvel has planned for phase 2 then I think they've officially jumped the shark and entered late 90s Batman territory.
Probably the best international film I've ever seen. simply incredible. the way it is presented and the stories within are so captivating. some harsh realities in there as well...I highly recommend if you haven't seen.
Convelescing my leg, I get the feeling I'll be in here quite a bit.
Watched The Lincoln Lawyer last night after hearing good things. I found it quite enjoyable, even if it was a little on the nose. He sorta pieced it together a little faster than he probably should've, but that's alright. It had a nostalegic feel, because that sort of procedural, courtroom drama with a twist thing was about all they made from 92 - 98 it seemed. And it worked well. Sprinkled with some style, the soundtrack was awesome, and you've got a really good cable rewatch type of flick. I'd give it a low 80s.
Then this morning I found Premium Rush on cable. I'd also give this a low 80s. The semi-jumpy plot was well executed, even if it wasn't much of a plot. More importantly, the bike action was shot really well. The gimmicky freeze frame thought process thing worked, and was done just infrequently enough. The overhead map thing was nice. It just had a nice stylized presentation for this type flick. Micheal Shannon was also a worthwhile foil, adding some dimension that was a bit flat on the character and story front, but again, that wasn't really the point.
