The Man With The Iron Fists

7.5/10

This film pays homage to the old school kung fu flicks in this ultra stylized modernized version produced by the RZA. The RZA plays an unassuming blacksmith forced to make weapons for rival clans and ancient China so he can seek his freedom. The stakes rise higher when a clan leader is assassinated and his chosen son seeks revenge. Meanwhile a mysterious soldier (played by Russell Crowe) enters the frey and an unlikely alliance is born.

If you like this genre like I do you'll love this film. The action sequences are unique, spliced with the grace and artistry of Crouching Tiger and the visceral appeal of a Kill Bill. Strong pacing and acting throughout with Lucy Liu/Russell Crowe/Rick Yune. Even Cung Le and RZA are solid. It went in knowing it would be impressive stylistically but it was better than I expected. Great debut from the RZA.

The new trailer for The Last Stand looks f*cking awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc0x-...ayer_embedded#!

Much more style to it like I expect from the director.

The Good The Bad The Weird - 8/10
A very entertaining film, loved the oriental western style. There was lots of action and some badass shooting scenes. The Weird was absolutely hysterical. Great film!

Flight - 6.5/10
I had great hopes for this film after the reviews that I read...but it lacked very much in terms of entertainment after this first 20-30 minutes of course. This was good in part because the rest of the film was slow and incredibly realistic. The ending was very predictable though. John Goodman was brilliant in his small role as a drug supplier for Denzel's character. I didn't like the side story of the heroin addict lady who meets Denzel, felt rather forced and fake. Overall worth a watch because it's powerful as something that could happen...but would probably wait for redbox.

I love that movie. Looking forward to see what the director does with an English language Schwarzenegger movie.

Denzel is the $hit.

I was seriously thinking about seeing this at the flicks ... how would you compare it to say ... Training Day, Man on Fire, or Book of Eli?

The Exorcist 7.8/10

I've been trying to hone up on classic horror films lately (recently seen this, Psycho, The Fly, etc.). I thought this was really well done. It started off a little slow, but built some necessary plot that made the character interactions later in the film mean a lot more, so that wasn't to big of a detraction. This was definitely more disturbing that scary for me, but was good none the less.

Skyfall

This final Craig bond film does a good job of including a bunch of fan service and had the potential to be the greatest bond film ever IMO. Unfortunately, they decided to make it into a action movie with big hollywood explosions instead. While entertaining, this could have been so much more. Bardem is easily one of the greatest villains in the Bond cannon. It's a shame we only see him in 2 non-action scenes because he is absolutely brilliant in them. They could have played up his and Craigs relationship in the film and it would have carried the entire movie.

Instead, they get caught up in explosions and the "redemption" story arch. It would have been so much more interesting if they explored Craigs inner turmoil rather than his fears of not being as good as he once was. There was also a potential for a good Bond chick but her storyline was not pursued. Not to mention, there were a bunch of plot points and holes left unanswered. Pretty much throughout the entire movie, I was disappointed with the direction they took it. Just so much wasted potential here. I honestly feel if they would have written it a bit better, it could have been on the same level as Dark Knight

This was one of the more slower-paced Bond films I've seen that left too much to be desired. It's going to be hard to beat a Bond film like Casino Royale.

I think some have lost track of what made Bond films "Bond films".

They weren't deep character films, they weren't serious nor very dramatic.

They were FUN ACTIONS movies, with very corny dialogue and all of it done tongue in cheek sense of humor.

In essence, they didn't take themselves too serious.

I think the Craig Bond films shouldn't be called Bond movies at all. Thanks to the Bourne series, the Craig Bond series has taken itself too serious, they're too dark, with no charm.

I think the last 2 MIssion Impossible films have managed to capture some of the fun aspects that the older Bond films had to some extent.

There used to be scenes in the old Bond films in which James would find himself in trouble and it would be almost as if he'd look at the audience and go "Oh shit!" very reminiscent of how Indiana Jones and Jackie Chan reacted in situations.

The Craig series shouldn't be Bond films.

Guy Ritchie would've been a PERFECT director for this series. He knows how to use comedy and action, he has a great sense of timing and keeping things flowing. These new Craig Bond movies are too serious, they should loosen up a bit.

Skyfall 8-8.5 (couldn't settle between the two scores, maybe I will after it sets in more).

One of my favorites now. Potentially top 5 Bond film. #1 is Casino Royale, #2 is Goldeneye, and #3-5 changes.

poetic justice

i haven't watched this movie in way over a decade, vaguely remembered it . me and my girl were browsing through amazon instant on my ps3 last night and wanted to watch a movie together. she was scrolling through the selection, and once i saw pac and janet, i told that b!tch to halt lol.

oh my word. what is there to say? this movie brought up a lot of emotions for me. it took me back to the 90's and all those good times i had as a kid - my huge crush i had on janet and how much pac was such a huge influence on me, even still now.

i shamefully can't believe how fine janet is. this is the only time you will ever see janet ms jackson if ya nasty dressed up "hood" but man was she fukkin fine. dem braids, my gawd dem braids. i asked my girl if she could make her hair like that and she gave me the negro please look.

the plot is very simple, and focuses on both janet and pacs characters. it starts off on how janet has developed a cold personality through personal loss, and shows the honesty of pacs character. they both have a disdain for each other after their first meet, but as destiny would have it, they would eventually see each other for who they truly are during a long road trip.

what i really love about the character pac played. was that it felt like that who pac truly was, yknow, the keep ya head up nigguh that loved his people and really cared about what was going on. i always gravitated towards that side of pac instead of the gangsta thug life dude.

im giving this movie a 7/10 because i felt like this movie was sort of incomplete and could've been something really special along the lines of "love and basketball". when pac and janet starts to develop feelings for each other, the movie all of sudden skips a lot of ground where it couldve really shown their relationship develop instead of leaving the audience to put it together. damn shame... i really miss u pac

7/10

Hmm...i was hearing rumors that this guy would be the new Bond, but I'd be glad if Craig would stay

I agree and think they started getting a bit more serious with Pierce and definitely with Craig. I do definitely feel like this is a bit of what I was talking about in Skyfall. There really is almost no humor in the entire movie, although there wasn't in Quantum of Solice either. I also agree that the current movies are a bit more like the Bourne series than Bond. However, if they are going to take the movies this way, why not make them into classic movies? Why not raise the bar to Oscar-esc levels? I believe Skyfall had this potential if written as talked about in my review.

In a time where there are so many mediocre action movies, why not make a movie that stands above the crowd instead of settling into the rest of the pack?
