The Tree Of Life - 8.7/10

First off, it's brilliant. But it's certainly not for everyone. If you have the patience for the first 45 minutes or so, then it really pays off. I certainly understand why most couldn't make it through, but once the story fully gets into the childhood, then it's a great payoff. Even the first 40 minutes, where there isn't much but imagery is a stunningly gorgeous adventure. I wasn't a fan of how this ended though. Overall one of the most odd and fascinating film watching experience I've had.

Just watched it. It was so hyped and it did deliver. One of the movies to watch in your life. Probably surpassed Fight Club as my most favorite movie ever or I'm still caught in the moment. Anyway's it's awesome.

Watched this again (there was a theater screening) about two weeks ago.

When I first watched it I thought it was about a 9, but after rewatching it I'd probably bump it down to a 7.

I didn't like the ending at all. It was PTA copying the end scene from Raging Bull, which in itself stole from the iconic scene in On the Waterfront.

I like Paul Thomas Anderson's later movies a lot better.

The Lego Movie 8/10

Great comedy. Well worth watching even if you didn't have Lego as a nipper.

Weekend (Jean Luc-Godard, 1967)

This is Godard's most confusing film from his cinematic period (1959-1967), but it may also be his most interesting. Lots of ideas about cinematic resistance, capitalism, and, most scrutinized of all, the bourgeoisie.

If you're into films that really make you think, I strongly recommend it.

"Didn't you hear what he said? Marx says we're all brothers!"
"Marx didn't said that. Some other communist said that. Jesus said that."

Assassination Games

8.5/10

I was really pleased with this. I wasn't expecting much of anything, really. To my surprise I found this to be one of the better action films I've seen in quite sometime.

This movie showed me Jean-Claude Van Damme isn't entirely finished as I thought he was. The performance by this Scott Adkins dude is even better.

Anyone else seen this?

Just watched this like a week ago. Great film. Loved that ending scene with Hunt and Lauda at the airstrip. Biggest rivals ever, but truly cared for one another. The film was so good, I actually went on YouTube to watch that race where Lauda backed out. Crazy

I caught it on Netflix a while back. Seems like the movies I go into not expecting much, always turn out to be some of the best.

Did he have a period that wasn't cinematic?

Been meaning to watch this one for a while but keep forgetting I have it. I need to find out first if it's PS3 friendly.

Ha, not really (I guess his videography pieces ["JLG/JLG," "Histoires du Cinwma"] would not be considered as such), but in this time period ('59-'67), all of Godard's most known and most revered films were made.

In fact, I think Godard wrote off all of his films before Weekend as bourgeois, and thus dishonest.

Then he became an underground revolutionary who people started to hate

I've always wanted to go over his filmography but since I watch everything with torrents he's a difficult one to get torrents on. Seems like an intriguing collection to go through.
