So sad that we never got to see that.

Damn, I think I'm going to have to avoid watching that to try to escape the crushing disappointment about the movie not getting made. Dune is my favorite sci-fi book ever and a truly great film about it would be one of the best films ever made.

Would he be the ideal director for 'Dune'? He's quite experimental and out there from what I know of him. I wonder if he would go too far in bastardizing the source. Maybe the docu answers that to some extent.

Just a warning if you have a problem with it, there's a bit of animal cruelty and stuff in El Topo and Holy Mountain. That shit bothers me... Also, some of it is a bit heavy handed for me. Like I see where he's going with things and don't need it played out so much, but I'm sure more closed minded audiences would need it forced a bit.

He admits to having taken some liberties with the book, so I expect as with anything, the hardcore fans would be a bit pissy... But the best case scenario is that we'd have gotten a Shining-esque movie out of it. Elevated and taken in a different direction.

I think he'd have been pretty perfect. Take all of his insanity, statements, and art, then blast it onto an already strong narrative. He'd get to express the things he wanted but still be reigned in a little because of the source material. Just the aesthetics alone of the concept drawings are amazing.

Tell me about it. Very depressing.

I mean he was buddies with Lynch, and Lynch ended up doing the original movie. I can only imagine this one being immensely great. Could you imagine that cast? Orson Welles, prime Kung Fu Carradine, Mick Jagger and Dali?

The thing that I'm most intrigued by is the amount of sets, costumes, and practical effects that would've been used. It's a movie that would be impossible to make now, because everything would be CGI now.

Olympus Has Fallen- 6.5/10 if Im being objective
9/10 if Im being subjective

Loved this film, I was surprised at the level of graphic violence.

After watching Do the Right Thing, I watched Miracle at St. Anna, Red Hook Summer, Summer of Sam, and Clockers, and I couldn't stand any of them.

Actually, Malcolm X is another good film he made...I'll check He Got Game out soon

12 Years a Slave: 5/5
American Hustle: 5/5
Dallas Buyers Club: 4.5/5
Her: 5/5
Wolf of Wall Street: 4.5/5

I'm usually pretty hard with my ratings, so I was surprised at how much I liked these films.

Probably the best run of cinema releases I've ever seen

This year's Best Picture crop is pretty damn good. Her is the only one I have left to see but so far, American Hustle was the weakest and even that was quite good.

No shit-stain nominees like Les Miserables or Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close the past couple years.

American Hustle: 3/10

Didn't enjoy the acting, and the story was lame as fvck. Gets three stars only for having Amy Adams and Robert De Niro.

I haven't met anyone who reacted like that to the film, but on my way out of the cinema I noticed a lot of shocked faces.

There are a couple of very graphic scenes, but I think it's a more emotional reaction than it is a disgusted one.

But yes, very depressing film.

The Golden Compass

Had this movie since it first came out on DVD. So, a long time. Seven years? But I never got around to watching it. Found it last night so I figured why not. Thought it was gonna suck but it I liked it. Too bad that sequel/trilogy will never come to fruition.

This might sound weird but Before Midnight may have had a larger emotional impact on me than 12 Years a Slave. It was such a brutally honest movie and the last 30 minutes of it constantly slap you in the face with the reality of life and relationships. I've never seen a movie that is such a close reflection of reality like Before Midnight. For a movie that's nothing more than dialogue, it was tough to watch and had me thinking so much after it was over. Amazing movie. It's right up there with Gravity for my fave of the year.

The Last Winter

You know the drill(no pun intended). A drilling team at a remote facility in Alaska, begin to experience weird shit and people start dying. Wasn't bad overall per se. The acting, however was.
