Backcountry (2014)

-Pretty good overall. Based on a true story apparently.

Awesome scenery and cinematography, and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

In Bruges - 10/10
Seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Amazing comedy with elements of drama. Beautifully shot, well directed and the writing is masterful, peak tarantino level.
Obviously great acting, three great actors as main guys.
One of the most well-rounded movies ever.

The Maze Runner - 7/10
Interesting premise and the visual style was great.
It started out very stupid, looked like another incredibly stupid teen movie, but characters do have some depth to them and you wish for them to succeed or genuinely hate others.
The sequel may have some potential after this, it was a satisfying experience

This should be IL+1, but I digress...

Dumb and Dumber To. 6/10. Better than I thought it would be.

Tombstone: 10/10.

Val Kilmer kills it as Doc Holliday, dude was perfect for the role in every way possible. Enjoyed the movie more after making the 45 minute drive to where the actual battle went down and visiting Boot Hill

Wyatt Earp: 4/10.

Dennis Quaid looked like an amateur trying to play Holiday after watching Tombstone. More star studded cast, but just didn't have the attention grabbing that Tombstone did. No replay value.

Wyatt Earp's Revenge: 2/10.

A movie made just to make a movie. Killmer was solid as an older Earp, but far from being good. Couldn't save the flick if he had done a performance as epic as Doc.

Shit dragged on, predictable, no replay value, no real memorable moments that'll stand out. Another mediocre Foxx performance (sans Kingdom/Ray/Law Abiding/Soloist, he has been shite). People telling me its a top/GOAT tier flick as well was . Rather watch Zombeaver again than this tbh

5/10

I think it dragged too long in some parts and the scene with Jodie Foster and the old guy walking across the boardwalk put me to sleep. Also, I think the bank criminals were way too soft - not enough violence either. The interviews with the bank people during the movie were a waste if time

I didn't like how Spike Lee shot the movie. Too many zoom outs of bank vaults and about 126 closeups of bank statues. They should have hired Michael Mann instead.

In Bruges has also had longevity, which was my biggest worry about it. I feared it was going to be one of those movies that I really liked, but later stopped caring about. I still love it and it has been years since I first saw it.

Texas Killing Fields - 6.3/10

I really Love the crime/mystery aspects of Zodiak, Mystic River , Prisoners etc.. so I was looking forward to eventually watching Texas Killing Fields

( heard it wasn't on par with the others but I still wanted to see it)

The first act starts off good.....but then then it slips and becomes sloppy ,convoluted.....it just doesn't work .

I didn't like Sam Worthington or the "tattoo guy".....just seemed to not fit.

prolly should skip it unless you absolutely love the Crime Mystery's ....

Exodus: Gods and Kings

3/10

Weak story. Weak acting. Weak dialogue. Cheesy special effects. Is this the same director that made Gladiator???

Ridley Scott is not good at making biblical/religious epics, even though Kingdom of Heaven was pretty decent, albeit historically inaccurate.

Crash (2004) 5.5/10

Clearly an overhyped movie. It actually won an Oscar?

The characters were all stereotypes: the angry white cop, the hard-working, family-oriented Hispanic, the shop-owner Arab, the rich WASP bitch, the gangsta hoodlum, the not-black-enough-black-dude. But I think what I hated most about it was how pretentious it was. It was a movie that wanted to make a statement so badly and that wanted to be deep but turned out to be predicable with little depth.

Agreed. It is good that it approached race issues, but it was too heavy handed. No subtleness at all.

thinking back on this movie...I think you're right, movie is overrated

been like 10 years since I have seen it though...can't even remember the overall statement it was trying to make...all races are human or something? we're all in this together? all life is fragile? etc etc
