Why does BJ Ryan get put in there? Oh right because he was once labeled a "closer" which will give him mystical 9th inning abilities until the end of his career. All you need to be is called a closer once in your career and people will automatically think your farts smells like roses in the 9th regardless of your age and the talent of the other pitchers on your team.
Tigers had3 righties coming up in the 9th so naturally you go with a lefty rather than match up and put in League who is a very good righty. And even if you want to go left-handed, Carlson and Downs are better than Ryan at this point. But nooooooo, the "closer" MUST always pitch the 9th in a save situation regardless of matchups.

I'm partial to League myself (hitters can't square up on him anymore) but on the upside, I think BJ hit 89 on the gun. If we're to be stuck with an overpaid commodity (of which the Jays have plenty of (relievers)), at least the scares of ST can be put to rest.
Purcey was decent, his stuff is good enough that he doesn't need pin point command. Really wish Inglett were still on the team. Perfect guy to have off the bench to PH against RHP. Couldn't he play 3B? If so, confused why Bautista and McDonald are over him in the depth chart.
