whats old school about making yourself and your franchise look bad infront of the press? if he had a problem with vernon davis he should've addressed him in private, its called professionalism, and i think the coach should set a tone of professionalism, so whats now wrong with vernon davis having a press conference about mike s. trying to change the 49ers into the bears.

So what? Those bears teams won a lot of games. You gonna complain about reproducing those results?

There's far too much crap going on with players getting in front of the media and running their mouth and guys like you never blink at it, but when a coach steps up and calls them out, in an organized and professional manner, IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION, you're gonna bi+ch? Get out of here.

Its funny how posters say Mike should have addressed him privately. When Mike took over the job he did JUST THAT. And what did Vernon do on Sunday? Exactly what the coach talked to the team about NOT doing. Got a stupid penalty then didnt care that he drew it and it didnt cross his mind before he reacted. And as he walked to the sidelines there was no sense of urgency, no dissapointment/digust with himself. Mike read him and it didnt sit well because he obviously has seen enough of Vernon to know the attitude he has about the game. He knows he was a top draft choice given guranteed money and so far his NFL career has been a joke. So to see this MAN (not a boy) walk off like its no big deal while Mike Nolan was canned for not being successful? Didnt sit well with him.

And the attitude these players have doesnt sit well with Mike. Mike even said in the press conference when pressued what stays in the lockeroom will remain there. He aired Vernon out and rightfully so. So its Vernon who needs to MAN UP and be a PROFESSIONAL since his time in the NFL? He's been everything BUT a professional. So yeah, talk all this crap about Mike and how he should have handled it. But not once did any one of you address Vernon here. And THERE is the problem. Coaches get the blame, players who dont even prove a damn thing in the game get the fame.

The mentality/attitude Mike had is why he is one of the greatest plyaers, MLB to ever play this game. When you say BEARS D which is synmous with greatness? He is one of the FACES you think of. His legacy has been set. He's a WINNER. Fact. For anyone to challenge a man who should be a head coach/given a chance his approach needs to do like Vernon Davis on Sunday. Shut your mouth and hit the showers. Period.

Kinda of a late bump, but it was nice to see the 49ers improve under Mike. His rant seemed to light a fire under Vernon Davis. The team finished only 2 games out of the playoffs.(Horrid division) They have a great deal of momentum going into next season, and unlike last year's Browns there will not be a lot of hype surrounding the team. Shaun Hill played fairly well, and the team may actually hold off on drafting another 1st round QB. The 49ers will probably trot out a nice ball control offense. Believe it or not, I could see them targeting Ocho Cinco. They really need a playmaker on offense, and Chad may have something left in the tank.

If it had been a player calling out another player, I'd have totally taken the opposite side, but Singletary is the authority here as coach, and he's supposed to set the example, and if that means calling out a player in public and pointing out that he won't tolerate that kind of idiocy on his football team, then I support him wholeheartedly.

You're not supposed to necessarily like your coach, just respect him.

Players calling out other players is immature and unprofessional and just causes locker room problems or forces the front office to get rid of someone.

same thing happened a couple years ago when the 49ers beat the Broncos in the last week of the season, keeping the Broncos out of playoff contention, and giving the 49ers a 7-9 record to end the year. People thought that was the dawn of a resurrection because the 9ers finished the year well.

1 and a half years later that same coach is out of a job. the 49ers werent any better at the end of the season than they were at the beginning. they just had a couple decent games against a couple bad teams. i still dont get the impression that mike singletary has the brains of a quality head coach. heck, look at all the coaches who have given ridiculous press conferences. how many of them have ever done anything noteworthy? mike ditka? he traded away an entire draft class for a runnignback. denny green? he was the worst coach in teh league for like 10 years running. singletary just strikes me as a moron. you could stick a puppet at head coach like weekend at bernies and a team might happen to win a couple games. thats just life in the NFL. to actually extend this guy tho to me just seems like another boneheaded 49ers move. they just dont know any better.

Well said Dasher. Teams go through these stages all the time where they just can't go over the top. Best example John Gruden when he first came to Tampa he made that team a SB winner cause he's a ****ing bad ass and lit a fire under everyone,. Dallas needs some one like this, it may be too late for Singletarry but they need some one like that. If Gruden gets fired bring him over.

Ya, with Singeltary the niners are gonna be a smash-mouth football team. His philsophy is to hit teams in the mouth aka playoff football. Gore is gonna get alot of carries and expect him to go back to 06 form where he rushed for around 1600 yards. Vernon Davis is the most overrated player in Football and he needs to grow up, however in the new offense he should get a bigger role since Martz is gone, expect the staff to get the best out of his ability. We don't need Ocho Cinco, give me a average player over him we don't need to distraction and we have a nice core of wide out's coming up with Hill and Morgan, hopefully Bruce can give us another year he's stellar. The niners were playing great and this was over playoff calliber teams too in Buffalo, NYJ, Washington. 49ers should have made the playoffs they lost alot of close games. With Patrick Willis becoming the next Ray Lewis, Justin Smith being a force at DE, expect the niners defense to be very good next year.

Niners = playoff team

STFU..... Singeltarry is a great coach who gets the best out of his player. 49ers spoiled Buffalo's and NYJ's playoff hopes at the time. At they beat the Redskins who were close to being a playoff team. The 49ers were 5-3 under Singeltarry I believe and the niners had a close lost to Arizona where they couldn't get 1 yard at the end of the game to win the game they also were leading the whole game besides the last minutes, The niners should MAJOR improvements under Singeltarry. The niners under Nolan were born to fail cause he's a idiot. I have a feeling if Singeltarry was white you would consider him one of the best coaches in the league...........
