Got a question for all you Nuggets experts.. Could this rift between the Nuggets and AI be fuled by the fact that he was upset at NOT being voted as a captain by his teamates! Just giving you some food for thought
I dont really consider it a rift. I knew he was gonna get traded before the all-star break. It was just a matter of time.
They preach about cutting costs and then they take on two big contracts like that? Are they stupid? They had no reason to take on Billups unless they really thought that he's "the answer" to this team's problems (NPI).
I loved watching Iverson play here, talk about a bittersweet trade.
yeah, it's bittersweet for me because he is a great player and proved that he is more than just a chucker. he truly wanted to win here, and it didn't work. we just admitted that this experiment failed, and that is hard to swallow. on the other side i am extremely happy to have chauncey back in denver. he belongs here and is a hero for every kid who grows up playing basketball in this city and state.
"I heard about it (Sunday) night,'' Camby told reporters about the deal in which the Nuggets got Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb from Detroit. "My phone was ringing off the hook. (Monday) I had a chance to talk to Allen. He was already pretty upset when they traded me. His whole reason to come to Denver was to play with me and (Carmelo Anthony), and now he's not in that situation.
"He's in a good situation, Detroit's a good team. I think Denver got a good player in Chauncey Billups, someone who's played there, I think it's a win-win for both teams.''
Camby said Iverson was "surprised.''
"Similar to me,'' Camby said of being dealt last July. "He thought he was going to be in Denver for a long time and finish out his career but we both know this is the nature of the business.''
Camby also said he spoke to Anthony on Monday.
"He said his phone was ringing off the hook before he even woke up,'' Camby said.
So what did Anthony have to say?
"He was just not knowing what was really going on,'' Camby said. "He's the franchise player and I'm pretty sure it caught him off guard. Like he said, at least he should know what is going on in the organization because the franchise is built around him.''
Melo on AI...
"I had a great time playing with (Iverson). He's going to always be one of the best teammates I ever played with, and he's always going to be my friend."
George Karl on AI...
"Allen Iverson was a joy to coach. When we acquired him, there were all these nightmares and stories about how difficult he was, and he never was difficult for me.
