talk about craziness. y is every1 so hung up on trading your team (and future) success to get a player or two now that probably still wont be good enough to win a c/ship.

by the time 2010 rolls on, we will have cleared $27M from our cap: Hughes, Gooden and Gorden. IMHO all three are expendable and not worth their contracts.

That would leave us with a core roster of: Rose, Deng, Hindrich, Nocioni, Noah and possibly Thomas. Not bad for the $27M that they will be paid as a combined total. Plus Rose, Deng, Hindrich and Noah should all have improved significantly.

I know what you will all say, it still leaves us without an inside presence that is going to command a double team.

But then again, in 2010, we have almost $40M under the luxury cap threshold, with a team on the rise and one of the best guards in the league. That would be very attractive to a good low post player who wants to win a championship or three.

So there really is no point in going after someone now and risk ruining the planning for years to come.

That core is ok. Rose is already a rising star. Nocioni is very solid. Deng is straight. TT and Noah just plan suck. In 2010 Rose should be a beast. Deng should be very solid hopefully but im not holding my breath. Noc will prolly be on the decline since he is going to be 30. TT and Noah will still suck. I think Sef has a better chance at being apart of the main core if he can consistently play great defense and hit open shots. You still need a decent team on the rise to attract a big time free agent. I change my mind and say trade for Kaman which adds 11 mill for 2010. So get rid of TT and Noah that would shed 9mill and some change for 2010. Then we would still have only 29mill committed in salary and 38 mill under the cap. Rose, Sef, Deng, Noc, Kaman would be the core add a free agent for 16 mill and another one for 10 mill and we still have 12 mill for bench players. The bulls can do a lot of stuff before and by 2010 but we need new front office management to do that.

Default Re: Pieces around Rose

Starting Lineup

PG: Rose (Obviously)
SG/SF: 1 elite perimeter shooter/1 versatile scorer defender (Gordon can be that shooter if he re-signs. Deng can be the other guy if he gets his head out of his ass)
PF/C: 1 interior defender/1 interior scorer (No one on the current roster fits either role well)

Bench

2 zone-busting perimeter shooters (Unless Gordon comes off the bench, nope)
1 slasher with defensive ability (Sefolosha maybe)
1 energetic 'spark' player (Only role that Thomas/Noah could fit in, except neither play with any real energy. Nocioni is also a fit but overpaid)
1 bench interior scorer (Good role for Gooden except he's not worth the money)
1 bench shotblocker (Nope)

So it looks like Paxson might have 3/5 of the starting lineup set, and maybe a few pieces off the bench. But right now he's paying starters' money to a few bench players, and he's stuck with 2 young bigs that are extremely limited in what they can actually provide long-term.

Short-term the goal should be simple: get a frontcourt of some kind. It doesn't have to be 2 all-stars either. Bulls just need 2 guys that they can somewhat rely on every night. That's not happening right now.
