Growing up in a family with strong socialist roots and going to school in Europe probably are the cause of my leftist tendencies. I have big problems even remotely understanding the American "Christian conservative" movement.

I support a strong welfare system because I know there's a possibility I might end up needing it some time down the line.

I support enviromental protection because I'd prefer it that a complete ecological collapse is delayed until after I'm dead.

I disagree with the war on drugs because I like(d) to smoke dope and because I believe that the WoD itself is causing more harm than the substances themselves.

Pro-abortion because in my opinion it's better to not put a baby in the world that isn't wanted or can't be supported by the parents. Birth control is a better way, as is adoption but the option should be there.

Gay marriage is a-OK because my faith isn't organized and definitely not tied to the state.

Does 24 still count as young?

I'm pro-guns and pro-unlimited freedom of speech, which isn't exactly a very popular stance in Europe, though. That's a part of the "American way" that I admire, everybody should be free to hate Jews if they really, really want to, and nobody should be prevented from looking like a tool.

this is because all the anti drug laws only attack the SUPPLY portion of the drug market.


the demand will always be there because people like you want to smoke.



the only way to finish off drugs is to attack it on two fronts:

continue attacking the supply portion, and attack the demand portion.

however, the demand is not easily lowered because it involves personal preferences. right now, anti drug campaigns, and counseling, and love are the best alternatives... and you see where that has gotten us?

the war on drugs is going nowhere, but at least holding down the supply is at least one half hte battle.

if you get rid of the anti drug laws, supply will rocket, demand will stay relatively the same, though maybe a bit higher for curious folks, but overall the prices will plummet and drug lords will fight and kill each other for territory and so on...

Although this makes it sound like I'm a total loony leftie, I'm not really. I can see any legitimate side to a story. but the thing here is that conservatives have gotten a couple issues DEAD WRONG. not even arguably right. and these positions aren't actually inherent to conservatism they're just attached to them cause conservative politicians are the ones who back them because of special interest groups. so really I'm faily middle of the road on most things and extremely left on a couple.
