Default [ Suns: State of Emergency ]

you know i am sitting here trying to figure a way to say what i want to and not sound like i am against the Suns, cuz i am not against them, but i think some stuff need to change.

honestly i am getting tired of all this reports coming out that Bell, and Nash want to run and gun, saying they were built to run, and they need to run. look these guys need to understand this aint D'Antoni ball, this is Porter ball, and from what i seen Porter seems to be a far better coach then D'Antoni ever was. prime example look at Shaq's stats under D'Antoni vs under Porter. D'Antoni had NO CLUE how to use Shaq or get him involved in the offense, but you see Porter already has that covered.

i mean until everyone on this team lets go of the past and moves on they will be a one and done team. the style of play that Porter has them playing is time tested and is proven in the playoffs. the inside out game is the fundamentals of the game, kick it low for a high percentage shot (Shaq is shooting 65%) if the double team comes, toss it out to the open man, you win on the inside, dominate the post. you win with Shaq, see the Orlando Magic, LA Lakers, and Miami Heat. they all used Shaq and played that inside out game, it works, it gets wins, and its playoff ball.

the style Bell, and Nash want to play will never get them to the finals and will never win a title you cant run and gun your way to the championship, if that was true we'd have 4 straight titles right now, facts are you dump it low to Shaq and he will produce, he will take a high percentage shot, or he will kick it to an open man, Shaq is the best passin big man in the game period. he will get it out to an open teammate they just need to be ready. Shaq still commands a double team, and Shaq is still very effective an can produce.

i personally think coach Porter has a far better and more effective offensive system then D'Antoni, sure Mike's style was better to watch, but it was non effective in the playoffs when things mattered the most, but Terry has a style that will win in the playoffs provided everyone gets on board and gets this system down, right now its a work in progress, right now there is some resistance. but if they can figure this out, and play how Porter is telling them, they will win and they will go places.

now i understand there being some reservations, the run and gun has been the calling card of our team for the past several years but at some point you got to realize that style wasnt going anywhere and wasnt winning us a title. teams always slowed the game down in the playoffs and pounded the inside to beat us, aka simple basketball, dump it low and take high percentage shots, if your doubled kick it to the open man.

last thing i got to say is MAD PROPS to Shaq, this dude is doing and has been doing exactly what he said he was going to, and he is easily the most consistent player currently on the team. he might not be the Shaq of the glory days but he is still Shaq and he is still productive and can still get the job done. i am also not surprised Nash has looked ineffective out there, being he is made to run an gun, he was brought here specifically to play D'Antoni ball, now with Mike gone, and Nash trying to play Porter ball he looks unproductive. all of Nash stats are down from last year, and personally until he forgets about running and starts to buy into this new system he aint gonna be no where near as effective as he was in he past. the other thing is Raja Bell, what on earth man? this dude was a defensive specialist and since he has been playing D'Antoni ball his shots and scoring went up and his defense went down, that dude needs to get back to playing that hard nose defense and get back to basics, because i he cant defend anyone then we dont need him. the Suns got shooters, you think Bell would be the perfect guy for a defensive philosophy coach like Porter so what gives?

i am curious to see what you all might think? agree with? or disagree with?

one thing i will say is that ive never seen a more inconsistent team Our d can be superb or embarresing. We really just quit last night against utah, ya the refs sucked balls, but those last 5 min were UGLY. Now a lot of people have said that we need a penetrator who can break down the d, i agree we gotta look in to that if we can.

Shaq has looked very nice at times, but you can see he cant really handle those back to back games anymore at a high level. And it seems as if we never get the ball to amare

But honstly at times i reallyy like this team(against det), we need to be more consistent though and not get sleppy when we have big leads.

Im looking foward to thursdays game BIG test for us

I don't see why the Suns cant revert to running evry now and then.

When Shaq sits They can run Amare, Diaw, Hill as the frontcourt and play like they used to.

Or just throw it at teams every now and then who don't expect it.

Its good that they've changed their style to make a championship run....But you're not playing for a championship every minute of every game...And like Nash has said this team has forgotten how to run. Ideally they should be playing a style of ball that gives them the best chance of winning each game.

And Porter has to recognise this.He has to decide what way they are going to play each night, he cant be stubborn and insist that the Suns are a half court team exclusively. Teach them the half court game but allow them to run when the situation allows for it.

I'm hoping that for the first 20-30 games Porter is teaching them to play this way....Then when they've figured it out he will be more flexible in allowing them to run...And allowing Nash to dictate the tempo of the game.
