His fist made contact with Harpring's face...
Under most definitions, that's considered a punch. Whether it was intentional or not.

I didn't want him to get ejected either, but Dirk knows he shouldn't do something like that.

I've seen guys "punch" other guys on the head when going to the hoop and not thrown out. That was home cookin' and you know it.

Read your own post.
Was Harpring "going to the hoop."
No, he was standing there with the ball in his hands after a rebound. Dirk got mad because, i admit, Harpring actually fouled Dirk in order to get the rebound.
So, as a result of Dirk being pissed off, he popped Matt in the face. Dirk did it out of anger rather than trying to stop someone from making a basket or something.

I know Dirk didn't "punch" Harpring, otherwise I'm sure the hit would have been a whole lot harder. But he did "pop" him in the face with his fist to let out his anger... I dunno, i think he deserved the Flagrant foul, but i think ejection was a little too harsh.
Like i said though, dirk should know better.

He didn't even know Harpring was there. They were bodied up and he shoved him with his elbow... unfortunately his arm was extended so in the follow through he hit his face. Just because a fist makes contact with a face doesn't make it a punch.

It was Harpring that fouled Dirk... it was Fesenko.

But Kobe wasn't thrown out of the game when he accidentently hit a guy in the head last year.

You should be awarded two points for hitting Harpring in the face, three if you draw blood.

Kobe got suspended twice for hitting guys in the face after shooting a jumpshot.

Bad officiated game overall to be fair. One incident comes to mind where Kirilenko flopped big time when going up against Dirk. But fair plays to Jazz, they deserved to win. They defended well and we forced too many shots and made stupid mistakes.

Yeah, the kirilenko flop was definitely pretty stupid. I hate when players flop like that, whether they are on my team or not.

And I was really impressed with the Jazz tonight.
No Boozer, no Memo, and no Millsap, and yet we still find a way to win. Definitely a great all around effort by the Jazz.
