i know i'm reporting this kinda late, but yeah i talked to the manager wednesday, and she said that they were "probably gonna hire me" and she asked me for my school schedule and whatnot, i guess it's just pending a background check now . which court cases that get dismissed or thrown out don't show up and background checks do they? and would resisting a police officer affect a retail job?
anyway, so as some of you may know i'm in big debt now because of school, so for the last i don't know how long i've just been applying to random places . so i apply at every blockbuster in a 15 mile radius online twice, one for a seasonal and one for a part time position . i finally got a call from one 2 weeks ago, they told me to come for a job fair which i came about 1 1/2 hour into it, and absolutely killed the interview . i was glad i didn't go earlier or else it woulda had to be a group interview, which i hate . i impressed them like crazy . it's good too because i wanted a job like that, not too much work and not working with too many people .
in conclusion, do any ISHers know blockbuster employees? i'm starting at $8.25, it may be different in illinois being that minimum wage is $7.75, but what do the employees you know typically get paid?
perks : i get like 5 free rentals a month as well as a free video game rental, plus i get the movies a week before they come out on DVD .
My brother works at blockbuster, he got the job about two weeks ago. His pay is around $8.50, but I can't be 100% sure. He also gets the same perks but he gets the movies about two weeks before it's released on DVD.
My buddy worked (might still work at) a blockbuster a couple years ago in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago actually. I can't remember what he started at, probably around $8/hour though. I do remember when he did work his hours were kinda ****ty though, but you gotta do what you gotta do for that dough. Good luck
Your first action as an employee there should be to mysteriously lose any copies of Bio-Dome that may be lying around in the store.
I don't know anyone that works there, but I always kinda halfway wondered, when things move on, what do they do with the obsolete products? Do they just throw out Genesis games and movies on laserdisc? Or what about original Playstation games and movies on VHS? Those are kinda extinct but not completely, right? I'd like to think that they don't just throw em away, and somewhere there's a back room in a random Blockbuster that is ripe for the pillaging with classics such as TMNT: Turtles In Time, Shaq-Fu, Streets Of Rage, NBA Jam, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, amongst many others I can't think of right now.
Congrats on the job.
I worked at a video games shop for 3 years when I was in high school. Great, fun job, but there are always them annoying people that every retail job has…
I am curious to how the movie/games rental business is going these days… I know that hard times are upon the industry as many people are turning to alternatives such as netflix/gamefly and 'on demand'… as well as illegitimate downloads on the internets…

Video stores sold/sell off old stock. When you walk into the video store and look at all the used stuff for sale, its all the store stock. Them stores don't buy games/movies like LameStop, they sell off their own overstock.
When they are stuck with excess stuff that did not sell they usually clearance it out at blockbuster prices[pun] and then people will horde them up and then they pop up on e(vil)bay. I'll admit that I got my hand on a bunch of PlayStation and Dreamcast games from a Mammoth Video about 6 years ago and made some good money on ebay. I kept what I wanted and sold off duplicates and the rest…
