Elton Brand to have season-ending shoulder surgery
It's now official: Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced today that forward Elton Brand will undergo surgery on his right shoulder, which he dislocated on December 17, 2008 against the Milwaukee Bucks. As a result of the surgery, Brand will miss the remainder of the 2008-09 season. The surgery is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Wilmington Surgery Center.
Elton Brand's first season in Philadelphia is coming to an abrupt ending.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Thursday afternoon that Brand will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Monday after a failed attempt to play through the injury.
The Sixers' marquee summer signing has averaged a mere 5.7 points and 4.7 boards in less than 20 minutes per game in his six outings since sitting out 16 games after dislocating his shoulder in a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Dec. 17. The former All-Star, who turns 30 on March 11, managed only eight minutes in Tuesday's one-point loss to the Boston Celtics, sitting out the entire second half.
After an Achilles injury that limited him to eight games last season with the Clippers, Brand signed a five-year deal worth nearly $80 million with Philadelphia in July to end his six-season stay in Los Angeles.
Re: Bitter Clipper fans are celebrating within (Brand done for year)
Sucks for Philadelphia's deep playoff hopes, but it does allow for more experience to their younger players like Speights and Thaddeus young. It will put them ahead of schedule as far as development.

Too early to say that. It was a great move to sign him. Sixers without signing Brand are stuck in neutral. Adding Brand gives them the potential to put it into drive. Keyword potential and sometimes that costs. Cant knock them. They went out and spent big bucks which is what the fans wanted. I dont wanna hear no Sixers fan moan, bytch, complain over Brand if they werent doing it prior to the signing.

Not being a fan and looking in, I never thought Brand properly gelled with this 76ers team and he was instead hampering the development of other players. But it is fair to say he did not get the ample time to prove himself.
The fact of the matter is however Elton Brand is now injury prone and he hasn't produced at a high level in 2 years.

No thanks. If he had stayed, our team would have been in the same position, if not a worse one, considering that Elton and Baron would be making near max money for 5 years. Instead, we were able to bring in Jason Hart, Marcus Camby, Zach Randolph, Brian Skinner and Steve Novak, with the money we would have had tied up with Elton. Oh yeah, Ricky Davis and Jason Williams too.
