Bill Plaschke said if the Heat can get home court in the playoffs they now have a chance to win the east. He should be shot.

The happiest person with this trade right now is probably Anthony Parker, having to guard the best player every game gets tough

My god, Miami cleared out MORE 2010 cap space with this deal. Marcus Banks contract clears out another 4.7 mil.

Everyone is going 2010 happy.

Default Re: Raptors are trading Jermaine O'Neal, J.Moon to Heat for Shawn Marion, M.Banks

I hate this trade for TO.

1. It improves them short term by giving them a legit 3 to start, but probably only enough to be knocking on the playoff doors or just squeaking in. That means their pick this year just went from about 6-8 down to 16-18.

2. They lost another 1st round pick.

3. They won't re-sign sign Marion. There are no studs available in 2009 that suit their needs and now they gave up all their 2010 money

4. STUCK with Banks' contract

Miami on the other hand:

1. Improves if JO stays healthy

2. Unloads Banks contract.

3. Pick up a first rounder

4. Frees up money in 2010 to sign a stud to play with Wade and Beasly.

5. Opens up playing time for Beasly

These are two organizations going in very different directions. If TO stood pat, they would have a good pick this year, a good pick likely next year and plenty of cash to spend in 2010 on an excellent crop of players.

Even if they lost Bosh, in 2010 they'd have Calderon, Bargnani, 2 lottery picks to build around from the two previous years and 45M to spend.

Coangelo is just trying to save face and he is hurting the TO organization long term by doing it.

We look weak from the frontcourt in terms of defense.

Terrible trade for Miami.

They could have let Marion expire this summer.

Then they could buy out Blount - 50% this season and 50% next season. That would save the team about 4 million in salary next season.

So they would have enough cap space to go after a Carlos Boozer type free agent.

Instead, they are stuck with O'Neal and his bad knee for next year.

Great trade for Toronto to clear out O'Neal's awful contract.

Please shut up if you don't know what you're talking about.

Beasley is not a SF, he's a PF. Boozer is useless on the Heat, and somewhat injury riddled. They can do much better in 2010, which is obviously the goal now.

I'm not a total fan of the trade... but I like our chances in 2010 much better than signing Boozer in 09

Jermaine O'Neal has had some good solid games as of late. A 22 point game two games ago, and his last game the guy had a bad offensive game but 6 blocks and 10 rebounds to go with it. That's exactly the kind of big man we need right now. If he stays healthy we're good. I'm also excited for Moon to come down here as well.

I don't see how it hurts the Heat short term....it's not like they were going to win the title with Marion? Not saying they will with O'Neal...but this will help long term...

1. Cap Space - They are a real 2010 contender now. Great work.

2. Michael Beasley - He's presumably starting over Jamario. this should let him flourish into the offensive machine he is.

For Toronto, it was a no-brainer.

Decent (not perfect) deal overall.

feels like Toronto wins to me, and that's mainly because JO is such an injury problem. Bargnani has been "good" when JO's been down and it was duplication that could be done without. Frontcourt of Bargnani, Bosh, and Marion is pretty sweet. If JO can stay healthy and be a legit post presence for Miami he'll be a good pickup. Certainly aided their duplication issue too with Haslem and Beasley to play the forward spots. will be interesting to see how it pans out. fun trade either way, good work MIA and TOR!
