What are the chances they would actually acquire Amare Stoudamire? I heard they would give up hickson, wally, and a first rounder.. perhaps even varejao and they may be looking for another team to do a 3-way. I heard Camby has also been in discussion. This excites me.
I would be very happy to get rid of Varejao. Personally, I have shifted my stance a bit. For awhile, I was thinking that we didn't need to make a move, but to get a guy like Stoudamire would be awesome. People say he doesn't play defense. I think a coach like Mike Brown, and having lots of good defenders around him playing for a good team might possibly get him going in the right direction. He could cause alot of matchup problems, and gives us 3 legit scorers.
Ben Wallace has looked old lately. He may be wearing down.
I don't have any interest in Stoudemire. As a personality, he b*tches far too much. As a player, I'm still not convinced he's not a system player. His numbers are obviously down this year and he shows no desire to learn the half court, while simultaneously complaining his shot attempts are down.
Also, the only players I'm interested in trading are Gibson, Varajao, Sasha, Wally, Trey, and/or Wright. And Sasha is hurt so he can't be traded.
Wright and Trey are clearly filler.. Don't even know if Trey CAN be traded since he's on a 10 day contract, not a legitimate NBA contract, and the only reason Wally is on there is because of his expirer situation.
If we have to give up any more than that, I'm not interested in a deal, no matter who we bring in.
Expirers + draft picks are all we should have to give up to get better at this point, or we're just risking ruining the current integrity and chemistry of the team.
It was never a realistic deal. This is all media crap. The local paper even said yesterday... the Cavs have NO interest in Vince Carter. They're not interested in giving up J.J. Hickson which means the Brad Miller deal is off, and the Amare thing was a long shot.
They're really interested in Marcus Camby, but I don't see how he improves the team unless we gave up Ben Wallace or Varejo straight up, but neither of those work within the cap. We'd have to throw in Gibson and then I don't see it being worth it for a 34 year old.
Next year Wally's contract and Snow's contract is coming off the Cavs' books right? I wouldn't make a move and just wait until then. The Cavs have a good team if people can remain healthy. Hopefully West comes back and everyone but Kinsey is ready to go for the 2nd half of the season. The 2009 free agents include...
Brandon Bass
Chris Andersen
Trevor Ariza
Charlie Villanueva
Rashard McCants
David Lee
Matt Barnes
Paul Millsap
Carlos Boozer
Kyle Korver
Mehmet Okur
...most of these guys listed are unrestricted and there's a few of them that would probably play pretty well in the Cavs system. Villanueva, Lee, Millsap, and Bass all stand out to me to who could fit in the easiest on this team at their current position. Villanueva would be great for floor spacing, Millsap and Lee are great inside which the Cavs seemingly lack outside of Big Z. And Bass is a great bench player for energy if people are looking to replace Varejao since he is a free agent that year also.
