I don't think it has anything to do with being under the cap, but you're right - the CBA prohibits him from buying them gifts.
The PS2's in the locker room don't belong to the players, so that's not a gift. Of course he could upgrade some toys in the locker room or something like that, but I hardly think that it would motivate the players.

But seriously, I don't think he's allowed to offer any type of bonus, money, or additional perk incentive. That would go against salary cap rules. (I would think, unless there is an exception for winning a title). Otherwise, they get extra money from the league for winning, but that's about it.
Of course, side benefits from winning a title include: better endorsement deals, better contract negotiation leverage, better post NBA career options....and better babes.

IF i was a player i'd wanna play for whichever team cuban is the owner and avery johnson is the coach. AJ truly loves his players and cuban is just freakin awesome(and i'm not even a Mavs fan).
if i was cuban i'd take the whole team to magaluf and let them have a couple of weeks of cheap booze and easy girls, partying it up and doing what the **** they'd want without reprocusions
