I actually miss the cassettes. If someone put together a mix for you back in the day, it showed mad love. A good tape had to be put together with care. It required precision. If you hit the record button at the wrong time, you may have to start all over. Now I can put together a mix in all of 30 seconds. Getting show bootlegs from record stores was great too. I think the level of conversation from music heads has took a backseat since the death of the retail shops. You can talk reckless on the internet, and act all snobbish, but cats would rip you apart in the shop if your attitude was too stank.

Hell yeah, agreed. You're right! Ahhhhhhhhhhh the memories that are coming up.

Yo it was an artform to tape stuff off the radio. You sitting there timing it perfectly, stopping it perfectly so the next song would be spot on. Not easy, unless you are Glove_20 of course. I spent many Friday nights tryin to record those exclusives. My friend perfected it and he also could get Hot 97. I have no idea how but the area he lived in he could pick it up. Had all types of songs that didnt make albums or mixtapes (unless u searched deeeeeeeeeeeeep).

It was pretty much our "internet download" back then. Same deal today just a different method. I did break bread on stuff moreso back then than now but me and you, your mama and ur cousins too all know what I'm rambling about.

Lol, old timers.. Sh!t like napster and kazaa just started coming up when i was growing up, luckily for me.. now its YOUTUBE.. funny how time flies..

very true.

another thing that died around the inception of internet distribution was the sense of anticipation around buying a record. back when sh*t didn't leak three months before release date, getting a new record was an exciting experience. you'd hear about dope new stuff by word of mouth at stores rather than by some dude jawing off about it on okayplayer. also, when you'd pick up a new album, you'd listen to it in its totality rather than skipping through the mp3s and reburning your own version. i think artists are aware of this process, and so now less time is spent properly sequencing a record and probably even putting together a cohesive, quality project.
