Default Kobe by a mile

In the February 16th edition of Sports Illustrated, 190 NBA players were asked the following question: “With the game on the line, which NBA player would you want to take the last shot?

It’s no surprise that L.A.’s MVP, Kobe Bryant, led all vote getters. But it wasn’t just a win, it was a massacre. Here are the results:

Kobe Bryant, Lakers, G — 76%
Chauncey Billups, Nuggets, G — 3%
LeBron James, Cavs, F — 3%
Paul Pierce, Celtics, F — 3%
Dwyane Wade, Heat, G — 2%

There you have it.

In the regular season give me Melo.

In the playoffs give me Kobe.

When the game matters (finals), give me the 2008 finals MVP.

I wouldn't want Kobe to be the guy taking the GW shot 2 with 2-3 seconds left either. He hasn't been very good with those opportunities the last couple of years. However, if I needed somebody to take over a game in the 4th or bring my team back from a deficit in the 4th I'd definitively take Kobe.

I concur with all of these. Add Durant for regular season as well.

Obviously Kobe would be a great choice, but if he's 1, Wade is 1a

Yup.Last seconds shots are nice, but a bit overrated ( if you can call it that, but I mean as a measure for "clutchness" ).

Now who do you want to have on your team down 10 in 4th - that would be Kobe/Kobe in a heart bit as well. Everybody, almost, can throw up a prayer as the clock expires. Almost no one can go on a scoring/defensive rampage the way Kobe/Wade can.

Wade is a great player, but since 06 he hasn't done anything of significance in clutch situations (playoffs that is).

I was talking specifically about taking over a fourth quarter, as that was the point Jacks3 was making

I'd take Roy and Melo over Kobe right now based on what I've seen in the regular season. Melo has been a great closer in the regular season throughout his career, and ROY has been sensational in 4th quarters this year.

Kobe hasn't been as good as his reputation makes it seem. Not saying he isn't a fantastic closer, but this shows how much bigger his reputation is than his actual game at this point. We'll see if he gets on the all-defensive team based purely on rep again.

I'm not saying Kobe isn't great, he and Lebron are a tossup for the best in the league. I'm just stating the fact that he's living on his reputation in those two areas - last second heroics and defense.

NBA players have always given Kobe credit. ALWAYS. It's only ISHiots like the ones above that pick someone else. This is why I never take anything a Kobe hater says seriously.
