It's not like he's going to refuse in a contract year...
Even though the situation is horrible for him, I can't really fault his reluctance to come off the bench. He's a first-ballot hall of famer who had the most efficient season of his career last year, and now he's basically being a sixth man who can't even close games due to the talent ahead of him. On top of this, he's spent the last few months playing on a mediocre team that plays a slow-it-down, grind-it-out style that limits his effectiveness. I'd be pissed, too.
Hopefully, this all works out ok and he can sign with either a contender (LA, maybe?) or a team that's suited to his style of play (Golden State? The Knicks?).
the thread title is incorrect... he SAYS he is fine with coming off the bench but we all know that he ISN'T.
He is always hinting he should be the focal point of the offense, so even if he happy coming off the bench, he will still be expecting 20+ shots and 35 minutes

a mediocre team? Not before he showed up. Dude may be a great individual baller, but he is terrible in any structured offense. ends up being a chucker

Iverson has been one of the greatest competitors ever since he stepped on to a basketball court. Even in Georgetown he never took a night off and he never will until he retires.
Well, I just hope that when he comes off the bench, most of the rest of the bench, comes with him...thats the group to run with him. (along with Prince)
whose gonna offer a 34 year old little man a 5 year contract?
I didn't realize he was that old.
Yea, maybe 2 or 3 years at MLE level is something he can look forward to. At his age. If he complains, he will end up like Sprewell, getting effectively kicked out of the league.
he really has no other choice either play off the bench or dont play at all if he shuts his mouth he'll have more choice as to which team he'll go to whether he opts out or his contract expires but detroit does not plan on keeping this cancer around they are hoping for an opt out by a player such as carlos boozer
