I hope your joking...the best he could become is Dell Curry..lol Never will he ever reach Reggie....ever. I can say that now. He is the last possible pick I'd want on the Raps. We don't need another undersized shooter. We need a slashing grit guy that can defend and is athletic.
Here's what the Raps need to do. No way were getting rid of Kapono and Banks...so they're here. You have to balance those out with cheap money and good talent. Only way to rebuild this team is through the draft.
1 - Yes as much as I like Jay put him back on the staff as assistant and hire a real coach.
2 - Concentrate on Draft: this draft is deep with serviceable players the Raps could use. Trade your pick and cash to Minny for 17 the low first and their 2nd. Draft -
17 - Evan Turner - kind of slashing/scoring two we need who is able to break down defences and pass.
Low first - Tyler Smith or Sam young who ever is on the board. Have very similar games. Both very atheletic can defend their positions and are good at rebounding. Young has been tearing it up for the last few weeks and would be my pick over Smith.
2nd Rounder - Curtis Jerrells/Jerel Mcneal two PG's that can flat out score and push the ball. Would work well off the bench in a run and gun system.
FA:
Parker - avaluable piece wants to retire in TO as his family is here and is a model professional and could still be a valuable backup and teach the young guys coming in. (resign for Vet's minimum I think 1.2 a year).
Graham - let him walk. Although if you could get him really cheap I'd consider it.
Marion - let him walk I really like his style of game and his play but with Calderon running the pg I just see no connnection.
Voskhul - bye
Jawai - bye
Patrick O'bryant - still working hard I like that he's a 7ftr and could be good as a project minimum for three years.
Pops - He's brought exactly what the raps lack hustle defence and rebounding. 2-3mil for 3yrs sshould do.
Banks - is obviously not gonna play so buy him out at a reduced price say 75% of contract or so
Players to look at:
Odom - multifaceted can score, rebound and pass. Point forward. (sign)
Turks - A guy that can easily handle the ball and get to the basket. Is a clutch shooter down the stretch. (sign)
Marvin - young up and comer ready to have a break out year.
Revised Lineup 2009 -
PG - Calderon/Ukic/ Jerrells
SG - Turks/Turner/ AP
SF - Odom/Young/ Kapono
PF - Bosh/Pops/Humps
C - Bargs/O'bryant
To me that's not a bad lineup at all...but it all starts with the draft.
