Default seven deadly sins question

So for all those people out there who believe in the seven deadly sins, have you noticed that the seven deadly sins is mostly human emotions and desires? Does this mean that Catholicism is trying to outlaw human emotions? Thoughts?

Seven Deadly sins:
gluttony - desire to eat more
lust - desire for sex/ unconditional love
greed - desire for more than you need
wrath - anger
sloth - laziness
pride - arrogance
envy - wanting something you don't have

I would only fault the church here with calling them sins instead of something else

these are common emotions... but wise people understand the need to monitor these emotions more than condemn them as sins

things like greed and gluttony lead to real problems if not checked... greed ultimately leads to mass suffering...

Arrogance keeps people from dealing in reality and doing the right things

these emotions are very dangerous if unchecked, but they arent in themselves sins..

I mean Jesus was supposedly angry when he threw the merchants out of the temple.....

its not a sin, but it can lead to some bad things

It's known as the "human condition." We have a tendency to turn to the visceral pleasures of the world and forget what is truly important in both this life and the hereafter, if that's what you believe.

Exactly. We all are guilty of these things from time to time. I think the Church's concern is when we take them lightly, as most of us do, they can lead to a culture of greed, pride, etc., which is not a "Christ-like" way to live.

the catholic church throughout its history has largely depended on making people feel bad for their inate human charachteristics, the bloody bastards. so yeah, they're not trying to outlaw human emotions as much as they're trying to make people feel like awful sinners which will indebt them to the church to make repentance. it's a foundational part of their business model, so to speak.

by the way, did you guys hear about the new seven deadly sins? catholic church announced them about a year ago. they are:

(1)genetic modification;
(2) human experimentations,
(3) polluting the environment;
(4) social injustice;
(5) causing poverty;
(6) financial gluttony;
(7) taking drugs.

I think its silly... its a new improved 2009 version of silliness...

Social Injustice? pretty vague financial gluttony? sounds like they made that one up on the fly....the whole idea of money promotes gluttony and greed....

the monetary system is based in profit first and foremost... if solutions to problems dont yield a profit, then those solutions wont be sought out....

it just sounds like more of a guilt trip 2009 style...

Guilt is also a natural emotion, that is if you have a conscience.

that is true... guilt is a common emotion (i wont call it natural because all behavior is based in how we are socialized.... If I was raised as a cannibal, then I would eat people and have no remorse or bad feelings because it is what all people I have ever known have done...it would be common or natural )

people must be aware that they arent manipulated through the use of guilt over these 'emotions'.....

wow this is interesting i have not heard about this. Anyways i'm not trying to bad mouth the Catholic church but the way i see it, the advancement of science has placed a strain on their control over their dominance in religion. Therefore the only reason i see them making up new "sins" like these would be to strengthen their hold over people who follow Catholicism.

I think any and all religions should be up in arms about science today and the advancements we've made. Their reasons for speaking out against science are completely understandable. Is a particular religious order supposed to erase all their teachings and beliefs that have been going on for thousands of years because a doctor in some lab proves to the world that he too can create and destroy life??

If your argument is that every natural instinct is acceptable because it's natural, then that means that every behavior is acceptable, which would mean there would be no merit to any laws or order.
