Yeah NY still holds the crown...But, most underrated I think is Detroit:

NY is just the most biased. Cali has love for everyone. Listen to Power 106. We play Jay-Z, Luda, Wayne, Biggie, Jim Jones, everyone. I've been to NY and have peeps there. There was a point in time when NY wouldn't dare play a Snoop track. Cali still barely gets play at Hot 97 while the wackest Jim Jones cut will get constant burn. They are the majority so what they say goes. Sure, I guess they're the Mecca.

Real hip-hop has become a scarce thing. I wouldn't consider anything that is played on the radio to be hip-hop, only some retarded offspring of it.

new york will always be the mecca of hip hop just based on that it's the birthplace of all elements involved alone (rap, graff, breakin, djing, etc). to say no is ignorant and no knowledge of the culture.

musically, which is what i think you guys are arguing about, the hot bed will always change because of controlled airplay and "what's hot".

radio and appealing raps are conglomerate machines and that's what you stupid little kids will never understand.

you have to live it and breathe it.

New York and LA both have arguments.

But like my niigga Jesse James said, Detroit is where this black music started at.

Yes they still are the place for hip hop, but consider Atlanta and Detroit.
