Mavericks backup center Ryan Hollins made an appearance on Michael Irvin's ESPN radio show yesterday. The 7-footer declined a request by ex-Cowboy offensive lineman/Irvin sidekick Nate Newton to publicly demand more playing time, but Hollins made it clear he believes he can help the Mavs win now and in the playoffs. Hollins went so far as to provide some insight on how the Mavs could succeed as an 8 seed against the Lakers, whom he acknowledged were the team to beat. The key: Take advantage of Kobe's selfishness. "Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the game, and I think sometimes he has issues trusting his teammates," said Hollins, who probably saw a lot of Lakers games while playing college ball at UCLA. "Maybe we catch them off guard, kind of get Kobe into playing a little one-on-one or doing a little too much, I think we've got a shot at them definitely."
Ouch.
Think about this. Even after almost 13 seasons, 900+ regular season games, 150+ playoff games, 5 NBA Finals appearances, 3 titles and an MVP, Kobe still can not shake the "selfishness" label. So much so that a Mavs backup center publicly recommends that his 8th seeded team attack this selfishness and believes they have a good shot at knocking the Lakers off.
Whatever little chance the Mavs had against the Lakers, there is 0% that this quote doesn't come back to bite them in the a$$ come playoff time. You'll see the most well-rounded Kobe you've ever seen when this quote gets back to him.

he really shouldnt call out Kobe like this. Kobe takes stuff personal.. he might just average 12 APG in a series against Dallas just to make Hollins take back his words
it'll be interesting to see if this even register's on kobe's radar. in all honesty, i don't think it will. if it does, i would love to see the next LA vs Dallas game--just to see if Kobe actually changes his game and runs around hunting assists, over passing, etc. no matter who you are, forcing a change in how you play just to try to make a statement is generally a bad thing.
honestly, i don't think hollins did a dangerous thing by calling kobe out in this way. on the other hand, if he had come out and said "kobe is overrated" or some such, which just incites star players to explode for huge games with their fingerprints in every category... i'd be calling for Hollins' head--and i'm not even a Mavs fan.

MAYBE HE WILL GET HIS WISH AND KOBE WILL PUT IT ON THEM... Mavs players just should not be talking.. Guys are all garbage... No heart what so ever....
