You can't really say Phil's saving this team for the playoffs if he's been putting his 2nd best player out there to get such extended burn. I know he doesn't have a lot of alternatives (Mbenga is awful and Powell's undersized), but still.

so should the lakers have made a move for a reliable big before the deadline??? we know they tried to get mcdyess from denver before he ultimately went back to detroit.

For the optimist people in here, you have the right attitude right now.

Folks, lets just be serious for 2 seconds here...The lakers pretty much have first place in the west locked down and the cavs will most likely take the home court advantage in the finals here assuming they meet.

Either way, we will have home court through the first 3 rounds, losing now won't matter if its a case of resting guys. Our guys are tired, lets be fair. this is too much to keep asking them to have perfect road trips. We're still 4-2 on this road trip and we played against a charlotte team who just seems to have the magic spell to beat us. Its all just bad timing, but it isn't harmful I don't think.

the thing that needs to happen though, is the bench stepping up...because they don't nearly play as much as the starters do and yet they are playing much worse.

I personally believe it will be in the team's best interest if Ariza and Walton had another talk and exchanged spots....our bench needs major help on both ends of the floor.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sasha start in front of Ariza and see how that works. I don't think Sasha and Farmar play particularly well together and Sasha would get a lot of good looks with Kobe and Gasol commanding the defenses attention

Who have they been resting? Not Kobe or Pau.... those are the two guys who need it most. they have pretty much been going non-stop since last year - making it all the way to the finals and the gold medal round of the olympics - then preseason again.

By all accounts, McDyess was only interested in playing for Detroit. I can't fault the front office guys for failing to sign him.

I also can't fault them for failing to get some of the other buyout bigs (Joe Smith, for example). Everyone's assuming Bynum will be back this year, and no one wants to sign with a team that's only going to play them until April.

But they are not playing at 100%. Resting doesnt necessary mean to be on the bench.

dude, this is the home stretch. this is when a top-tier team should be playing its best ball. IF you are ever going to worry as a fan, NOW is the time to worry because the Lakers are NOT playing the best ball. Indeed, they look very very beatable.

I just call it pure boredom.

Look at the celtics and spurs, they're losin too. These guys are just tired. Cleveland is just trying to win every game because they know the only shot they have at winning is getting homecourt throughout all playoffs.

Luckily for the lakers, as much as it hasn't shown lately, they're still probably the best road team.

Yep, they are pissing me off a bit too. This is not how you want to be playing heading into the playoffs. I dont like all the minutes the starters, especially Pau, are having to play.

Pathetic play. Have I been watching the Clippers? Soft, man. Soft. They need to have a sense of urgency. I can't even sleep as well at night thinking they won't even get out of the west with no cajones.

ARRRRRGH!!!!

This is how I feel as well. It is the home stretch, and they are playing very uninspired ball. Even the win against the Bucks they played mediocre (bench did play a little better), and they let the Bucks have a shot at winning in the final minute or two.

Remember, this Laker team right now has not proven anything. Only that they can be heavily favored in the finals and still find a way to embarass themselves. They have everything to lose this season - because finishing second will still be considered failure. They are just not playing with a sense of urgency or energy you would expect from a team that wants to win a championship.

Even if Kobe and Pau are weary and in need of rest, the rest of the team has not stepped it up enough (aside from Lamar in stretches) to show they have the heart of a champion - and the hunger to go out and take. Championships aren't given away, they are taken - the way the Celtics took it from us last year. Right now we don't look like we could take candy from a baby...

I saw a step in the right direction yesterday against the Bucks, but still a ways to go in this quest - no time to let up now.
