Perhaps you are not familiar with a player named Kobe Bryant. He is notorius for stepping out of the offense.
In all seriousness, they have clearly incorporated some pick/roll with Kobe & Gasol. Also, watch for Odom coming down the lane after the pick/roll occurs (Kobe/Gasol pick-roll, ball goes to Gasol, defensive help comes over, Odom slashes down the middle, Gasol gets assist)
