Default Ron Mercer to retire, Van Horn might also?

Quote:
Seattle Times - Ron Mercer worked out with the Sonics in the offseason and was supposed to report to training camp before suffering a back injury that will force him to retire, the Seattle Times is reporting

Quote:
Deseret News - According to Tuesday's Dallas Morning News, Keith Van Horn "is mulling his options, including retirement," and "may wait until the season begins (to) see if the right playing opportunity comes along."

Utah did not give serious consideration to inviting Van Horn to their camp, but they could consider him should one of their heavy-minute forwards suffers a long-term injury

Van Horn will probably latch onto a playoff team late in the year.

Van Horn would still make a great 6th or 7th man off the bench. He's only 31 and can still play.

I really don't know why the Jazz haven't signed van Horn. He can score in bunches and has fairly good range, and the Jazz still have their full MLE. He has a large fanbase in SLC dating all the way back to his college days (fans at the Delta Center still cheer for Andre Miller whenever Denver comes to town). Why wait until Boozer or AK get hurt to sign him? Lock him up now as an insurance policy.

Starting 5: Deron Williams, Gordan Giricek, AK47, Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur

Key Bench: Derek Fisher, Matt Harpring, Keith van Horn, Ronnie Brewer

Up and Coming Bench: Dee Brown, Roger Powell, Paul Milsap

That makes for a pretty solid and deep team, with plenty room to grow and gain experience. Do it, O'Connor. Do it.

Brewer should start over Giricek.

Ron Mercer, what happened. He was such a great scorer in college and his first couple years in the L he put up solid numbers for Pitino. They he got traded and kinda disappeared.

Brewer can't shoot, Giricek can.

I'd start Brewer over Williams though, and have AK47 and Brewer run the offense. Deron sucks.

I loved Ron. Such a waste of potential though. Great body, cool form and natural flair but no real drive.

We've been through this, Ced.

You've never even seen Ronnie Brewer play. You've just read articles about his ugly looking shot. Ronnie Brewer is an average shooter. Definitely not a guy I'd say "can't shoot". He can shoot just as well as a guy like Josh Howard. I don't see people saying he can't shoot.

You should reserve that talk for people you've actually seen play.

Default Van Horn

If there is an injury in the Hawks front court, he would be a good guy to add.

I'm surprised the Wolves didn't try to work out some type of sign and trade for him. The Wolves can use all the help they can at center behind Blount.

That Jazz lineup you suggested sucks, Okur is their best outside shooter.

Williams and Brewer are a junk backcourt. Redundant.

I didn't suggest any line-up. I simply said that Ronnie Brewer should start at the 2 over Giricek. I'd prefer to see Derek Fisher start at the point guard. The fact that it would be an all-Arkansas backcourt has nothing to do with, either. Fisher is a veteran and a solid play at point guard. Brewer is an athletic, do-everything type who can wreck havoc on offense and defense. What besides shooting does Gordan Giricek have over Ronnie Brewer?

Now your talking. Deron Williams is a fat little slob that will never amount to anything.

Giricek has a proven NBA game, Brewer doesn't.
