Default Ex-NBA star Marvin Webster found dead in hotel

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Former NBA star Marvin Webster has been found dead in a bathtub at a Tulsa hotel.

The 56-year-old Webster was discovered in his room Monday morning in the Ambassador Hotel.

Police spokesman Jason Willingham says foul play is not suspected and the death apparently stemmed from an illness. The medical examiner office says the cause of death has not been determined.

Willingham says the former 7-foot-1 center had been living at the hotel and employees grew concerned after not seeing him for several days.

Webster played nine seasons in the NBA, including six with the New York Knicks. He also played for Denver, Seattle and Milwaukee. He averaged 7.1 points and 7.0 rebounds. His first pro season was with Denver of the ABA in 1975.

Plaing in the NBA at that time made you an star.

He was known before the NBA/ABA due to his years at Morgan State. You don't have to be in the rock and roll hall of fame to be a rock star. He made it to the NBA, played very well, helped some teams to very nice records and postseason appearances, and now some geeky kids are trying to tell us a guy who lived the dream and made it to the big stage should not be considered a 'star'?

Nobody called him a HOF player. Nobody said he was an All Star. He was a star because he reached that level we all dream of.

Wery well written, but... no, you can not call a 7,7 guy a star.

Do I need to bring up Ben Wallace's stats to prove a point? Piss off, dude went to an elite level living the dream most kids never would reach. That's a star. He also did very well, while being at that big stage, but you probably know his career too, bringing up his career averages like that? Him being a beast, leading the Sonics to the finals against the Bullets? Also stepping up his play even more during that post season?

I don't care what you kids say. This guy was a star and he should be mentioned as such.

By coincidence, I was searching "recent deaths" at Wikipedia today and I found him being dead since 4/4...BTW, how the hell do you die at 57 "from natural causes"? He was 7'1, but still not an acromegalic freak.

He was known as "The human eraser". Great defender, especially in the late 70's, he was one of the most prolific shot-blockers for his playing time. A poor man's Nate Thurmond, without the scoring instinct.

Edit: He did have some stories with hepatitis. He fell ill 3 times with it.

Saw him play - nothing special .

Saw a couple games if I recall when he tryed it with the Bucks - Defense was o.k.

His Sonic's playoff year was obviously his best before he got sick.
