You too see the lack of quality in Puyol. Why do you think he is rated so highly when clearly he isn't even that good and gets beat by everyone.

And Carra the best in the world?lol Did you see Drogba dismantle him two games in a row?
As for Puyol, I wouldn't say he's the best in the world, but he obviously doesn't have as much help as other defenders have from his teammates due to the style Barcelona plays.
Compare Madrid's Cannavaro with the one who plays for Italy, same player, different results.

Vidic
Thuram
Nesta

Puyol

My favourite is Giorgio Chiellini but he's not the best... yet.

SO many idiots who don't watch football but love Barca's box scores always talk about Carlos Puyol as a great defender but really he's solid at best.

EVERY DEFENSE HE HAS PLAYED IN HE HAS LEAKED GOALS. For Spain or Barcelona, he has never had a solid defensive line. Shouldn't the best defender in the world HAVE A RESPECTABLE DEFENSIVE LINE THAT DOESNT LEAK GOALS

Don't believe everyone who overrates Barca players and treats them like untouchable gods.

Watched Barcelona since 1995. (and is indeed my Fav. team)
It's pretty obvious you NEVER watch Barcelona games.

Seeing as it's pretty obvious that Puyol is a couple of 'plateaus' higher,
maybe you should start asking who the best defender in the Premier League is, rather than trying to take on the supremacy of Carles.

The dude's not even nominated for the 'PFA player of the year' award. 2 other defenders are: Vidic and Ferdinand. (even though I don't agree with the list)

There's just 5 off the top of my head.

I assume you only started supporting Chelsea since say, 2005 or so?

Chelsea will buy their way back into contention. As long as Roman doesn't keep losing cash like he did in '08

He's on loan simply because they couldn't find a place for him as a defender at Real Madrid due to the huge contracts Cannavaro,Pepe & Metzelder command.

That kid is a great defender, can't wait for him to join Real next season. Also, Piqué is turning into a special player as well, he'll make some noise in the near future. As for other good defenders, I'd pick Albiol from Valencia, Amorebieta from Bilbao, Pepe from Real Madrid, Vidic from United, Puyol from Barcelona, Carvalho from Chelsea, Toure from Arsenal and probably some more that I'm forgetting.

Per Mertesacker from Werder Bremen.
He's underrated simply because he plays for such a bull**** team but he is a good young defender.

In 5 years:

This kid basically may end up becoming the best LB in the world, he's only 19 but if the potential for him is as high as I've heard he should be very good.

We are in a weak era of football.

There isn't one single defender in the same class of Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore, Figueroa or Baresi.

Ferdinand is average. Vidic, Puyol and Carragher are great defenders. Cannavaro is a has been. Used to be a great player though.
