Default Source: Jaguars to sign Torry Holt

The Jacksonville Jaguars are nearing a deal for free-agent wide receiver Torry Holt, but it has not yet been finalized, sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Holt was released by the St. Louis Rams on March 13 shortly before he was due a $1.25 million roster bonus on March 17.

Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, ranks 11th on the league's all-time reception list with 869 catches.

The 10-year veteran caught just 64 passes last year for 796 yards and three touchdowns, the fewest scoring catches of his career. His total receptions and total yards were the second-lowest of his career, ahead of only his rookie season of 1999.

The Jaguars are in need of a veteran receiver. The team released troubled receiver Matt Jones last month after he violated a plea agreement from an earlier drug charge. They also released Jerry Porter and didn't re-sign free agent Reggie Williams.

David Garrard's been one of my favorite QB's since he became a starter, especially with the year he had 2 years ago, but he's never had anyone at all to throw to. If Torry Holt isn't finished, this finally gives him a target. 64 catches/3 TD's last season at 32 years old.

St. Louis was 27th in the league last year in sacks given up and I've gotta believe that had something to do with his limited catches. Can't catch the ball if the QB never throws it. At 32 he should have some gas left in the tank.

Obvious icing on the cake after the Jerry Porter worked out so well last offseason. Screw the Jags, what a hellhole.

If this is true then yesss, finally the Jaguars get a decent receiver. It's been hell watching them play with 5 mediocre receivers on the roster. When your best wide out is Matt Jones, your team has problems.

I was thinking that too...

I was thinking there would be a chance he would come to Dallas...

still, I suppose it has become apparent that he has "lost a step"...
